Ghetto Mod - Land Rover Discovery Mini Cargo Nets

I have a ghetto mod for all the greasy fellas.

I was at a junkyard a few months back and I found some mini cargo nets out of a Land Rover Discovery Series II. They actually fit PERFECTLY beneath the steering wheel of a 3G 4Runner (great place to put your phone) and work wherever else you want to fit them. Unfortunately you have to drive screws into wherever they go, so this is not for people who care about their interior.

When removing them from the donor vehicle they are very fragile. Use a small screwdriver to pry at the frame and use your hands to remove them. The mounting tabs will break off but you don't need them anyway. You might snap one in half (check first image to see where driving a screw in the center made a crack) but luckily a Discovery has 4 of them in the rear seating area. The piece of rope at the top of the netting will probably be loose but you can easily tighten and trim it. Alternatively you can use a piece of elastic cord.

Cheers

I think that's a killer find.

But I'm a bit more curious about the "7-wire ground using a wing nut" mod.

That looks like a shin skinner

That trim piece under the wheel is easily removable and you can get them in the junkyard cheap. You could remove your original if you don't want to drill it.

It's the best mod ever, I just don't want to post about it and reveal my secrets.

Great mod! I know what I would put in the net basket underneath the steering column: a bag of seeds. Sunflower seeds keep me awake on long drives, so it would be great to keep a bag of it.

Thanks for sharing!

Woah, I like this mod! Very neat. Defintely something I would consider, if I could somehow get around drilling into the plastic. I'm going to grab one from the yards if I come across one and see if I can come up with a way of not drilling.

In any case, thank you for sharing!

Just keep a spare trim piece from the junkyard as well. That way if you want to sell it or swap it out you've got a clean one to replace it with.

Just wanna say thanks for the love everyone. Keep an eye out for those Land Rovers, they seem to be pretty common in junk yards in California!

Maybe a craft glue gun to hold that trim? Mine wouldn’t be holding anything too substantial so no need to drill, for me at least. Seeds, phone... Then to remove it, a little heat from the the heat gun and it would pop right off.

I actually have a roll of 3M VFB tape which is for permanently bonding. I can try it out on another one and post results.
