Mine is! That's exactly how i feel about my 01, superb, feels like new and yet all its major components are intact, never opened up, only failure has been ignition switch - sweet!

For manual trans, 98 is the best year. pre-99's didn't have A/T transmission temp monitoring in the CPU but for a M/T that's irrelevant. 98 still had a manual odo, manual climate controls, but it got a rear 12 V plug. Swap in a 99+ center console and you're laughing!!! Wait a minute, I'm laughing, hahahah, I have one!!! OK, OK, a multi-mode Xfer case would be nice but no biggy.
And for automatics the best year is 2000, since with a slushbox you might as well get the other automatic electronic crap like electronic climate controls (god, I still can't figure that out), electronic odo which is great when you're at the junkyard and wanting to know how many miles that part has off this 99+ truck, that has no power to the odo... 99+ has the bigger rear side compartment. And 99-2000 avoids the tranny problems of 01-02. So for A/T get a 2000 and you're laughin. Hey I'm laughing again, I have one of those too!!!!!

Amen, 01-02 trans being longer throws a bit of a wrench in things going dual cases, not a big wrench.

Glad the filter change got the pressure back up in the system...have you checked the shift cable at the throttle to make sure it's adjusted right? It is the governor regulator...you can bump it up a few notches to get it to build a touch more pressure to shift better...one thing I don't understand is the inline filter thing people are suggesting...it goes in line on the cooler...what doesn't make sense is the fluid gets picked up through the filter in the pan then through the trans pump and out to the cooler...so why would you need to filter it again? Also your magnets really don't look to bad...I've seen tons just like that and many much worse...as long as you don't have pieces of something it's a normal never changed fluid trans...I wouldn't wait 12k to change it again though...maybe 3k tops...and keep using that additive or use more...you want to get a conditioner on the seals...there's no way most aren't hard as a rock and hopefully it'll soften them up, if not one will fail...which is the reason trans fail after a fluid change...now that you have the stock pressure the seals are very prone to a leak or break...then you burn up a pack...typically 1st and reverse...or the drum on the band.

I've never opened up my trans but based on Timmy's video, the filter in the tranny is more of a sieve so doesn't go really fine.

I'll check that shift cable out! And also as far as the filter goes I've seen videos of people open them up and that magnet that's inside does tend to have additional metal particulates on it so I'm not sure but at this point I'll make the investment to help in any way possible. I'm going to flush it completely once I do my next oil change and add two bottle of Lucas this time because the bottle does say you can add up to two. Thanks for the feedback!

The trans is exactly the same size externally. All the multi-mode transfer cases are longer than the J-shift (and electronic '96-'98 Limited) whether they are 99-00 limited or '01/'02.

Got my info from Steve Schaefer SS thread on putting dual's in 01, motor on back of t-case adds the length the others don't have is my understanding. dual's on drawing board will take any info I get.

Yes - but the motor on the back of the transfer case is there and the same dimensions on a 99 or 00 Limited. All others are shorter. And the transmission case is the same size for all the autos - it is only differences in the transfer case on the back (and the bellhousing on the front for the 4-cylinders).
Putting dual cases on and keeping the multi-mode transfer case is a big challenge, but there is documentation on what needs to happen.

This is the wrench I spoke of earlier, not really a big wrench either.
I see the bbiigg wrench being using Dakota Digital linear actuators instead of twin sticks. Both have been done before.

Update: So far I've driven about 5 or 600 miles on the refill and new filter with zero issues or any shuddering or hesitation. I've also swapped out injectors with some I pulled from a junk yard that I put new parts on and got cleaned and flow tested. This truck is running better than it ever has.

Hope no one considers this a hi-jack...Maybe some suggestions for 01-02 owners to minimize this failure?
As an 02 owner, I’m currently using Dino fluid and have been wanting to switch to synth, just haven’t yet because it runs so smoothly...at 160k. PS: External cooler installed.
