here comes another update on the RADRNR. i'll start off with the maintenance.

so i had started a thread about me having an extended crank intermittently happening.. well, being a tech i started playing detective but without spending TOO much time on it  I noticed since winter, my fuel economy has plummeted from 250 a tank straight to 180/90 (i drive like a grandma and my driving style/habits have not changed). i realize i'm in alaska and the state puts out a winter blend for gasoline vehicles (i'm assuming diesel also). second, it started happening almost every time i drive and let it sit for 15 minutes- couple hours. when try to start now, i now hear a big combustion in my right bank and then seems to flood out. when it starts, black smoke (rich fuel) comes out momentarily and then proceeds to be normal. it all came to me like a brick and knew my injectors were getting stuck upon heat up and flooding out the vehicle. i replaced the injectors for upgraded LCE injectors, new OEM intake gaskets, fuel crush washers, and went to an O-style throttle body gaskets versus the D-style. i now have no long crank, and have been getting great fuel economy and power feels a lot more linear than before. didn't get any pictures during the swap unfortunately but one injector in the right bank was very discolored towards all other injectors.
IMG_1433

I had also installed brand new OEM front wheel bearings with OEM seals. i also happened to weld on total chaos knuckle gussets. didn't get any pictures as it was a job and a half to do and i wasn't in the best mood at the time..

lastly i got rid of my rear diff leak by installing a new pinion seal. here's the part number. just remove the 27(?)mm bolt, rip the seal out and set the new one. put the nut back to the same exact spot of removal (OEM paint pen is used from factory, just match it back to same spot) and good as new.

NEXT
i was tired of only using the light cannons, something had to be done with it. i had tiny rigid pods on my CBI ditch bracket but were not hooked up and with it being completely dark in the winter time by 4:00 i wasn't having it anymore. i had to come up with a switch system that isn't cluttered, easily accessible, and looks great. I ordered a Spod bantam system to manager all my accessory outputs and tried looking for a writeup on the 3rd gen 4runners and found NOTHING.. great, no help and knowing 3rd gen 4runners don't have a ton of engine bay space i knew it wasn't going to be awesome finding a spot. luckily i came up with this and has worked great for me so far:
IMG_1428
IMG_1429
IMG_1423
i got the 36" length power cable version and bolted it to the top of the fuse block. i then cut the power cable to remove engine bay clutter and easy access to open the fuse block if need-be. i routed the cat-5 cable in between the charcoal canister and wheel tub, through the firewall, and up the A pillar. i then came up with a ram mount bracket and mounted it up to the a pillar and bam, that is all good. ideally it would've been best to buth the unit inside the vehicle but i don't plan on taking my truck through deep water crossings. also easy field repair. i then get excited, hit the switch to the rigid pods ready to light the entire night up and found a Big problem. these puppies ARE WEAK! fixed that immediately with some baja designs XL80 pods. MUCH BETTER. the output is amazing.

next thing on the list is i know im leaving alaska soon and need more readily available space to charge my stuff. added a blue seas dual USB port and cigarette lighter i wires them in series and just ran it straight to the bantam with the two wires and made it look very clean. this is how it came out
IMG_1392

upon needing chargin, i needed REAL navigation rather than just google maps on my iphone. thus, i purchased the Garmin SmartDrive 65 GPs
IMG_1404

also needed a place to mount my phone. i watched timmy the toolman's video of options for mounting phones and tablets YouTube
i ordered the motorcyle ram mount along with the panavise on amazing and got completely sh** canned i tear apart the dash and found I HAD ORDERED A 4TH GEN BRACKET not the 3rd gen due to a dead link and plain not paying attention. after that i figured id just install the ram balls on the oh sh** handle. both of the phillips heads blew RIGHT off and had to spend a hour and a half extracting the loc-tited 4mm bolts and ended up not being successful on the top one. i just drilled it out and tapped it to m8x1.25 and just planted the ram ball to the top hole. this is how it turned out, not bad but i dont really like my phone that high and in my face. it will stay there until i figure a better spot for my galaxy tab (gaia use and scangauge) and phone together
IMG_1424
IMG_1407

cockpit view, looks kind of cool with all my gadgets

IMG_1385

lastly, i decided after a lot of thinking, im going to be selling my dual ARB compressor and getting a single high output ARB compressor and mounting it in the engine bay purely for accessibility and field repairs. i installed my switches to the center console though. when i go back to alaska i will be installing the 4.88 front/rear ARB complete differentials but im just going to stick it out with stock 4.10s in idaho during the winter time and focus on skiing.
IMG_1395

also mounted my tracks and shovel to my Sherpa rack. i just used to long bolts, grinded them down to fit the channel and locked it down using a nut, and hand knobs to remove the tracks. the shovel is just mounted with two quick fist clamps.

that is all the updates i have until the truck arrives in seattle where i will pick it up. i really wanted to upgrade the ENTIRE suspension and get the ARB's on but i figured it'd be best of me to save all possible money while im not working for the winter and job hunting in the states.. i have absolutely no plan as of right now other than headed towards idaho to live with a friend, ski touring nearly every day

well, ive made it into the states since January 19th. it is now February 18th and i have put 6500 miles onto the truck since reaching seattle, and now 20,000 miles on the truck since i purchased it on may 1st. ive so far been in Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and colorado so far going back and forth to each state for skiing. heres some of the pictures ive got on the way.

in wyoming, i found two great deals that I COULD NOT pass up as ive been wanting this setup for quite sometime now even for on my pickup i had.

IMG_1958-Edit

TRD pro 17" wheels paired with 285/70 Milestar Patagonia M/t's. everything is brand new and was under $1,000 to install. the odo was for reference of when they were installed for later. on the other-hand. i notice my truck has been losing coolant without any coolant leaks so im beginning to worry about a cracked head or possible head gasket leak. other than that shes putting along. looking to wheel very soon as im now in utah for awhile.

Test or just replace your radiator cap.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, losing coolant during an extended road trip (a couple 1000 mile days in a row). The coolant loss was accompanied by some strange gurgling sounds under and behind the dash and strange, occasional fogging of windshield. It was during an extreme cold spell with sub-zero temps. I limped the last 50 miles or so into Dickinson, ND with the heater blasting and windows open. I got some crazy looks from other drivers.

I was afraid of head gasket issues, but the problem has not resurfaced for over two years, now.

haha! just before i read this, 15 minutes ago i had time to perform some diag and verified that my cap was indeed broken and damaged. the seal/plug part had visually snapped off. replced cap with OEM one. the only problem is i did nt find the other side to the cap... hoping i wont run into blockage issues soon. well see though. headed to colorado from salt lake on friday and will readvise.

well im nearly 10,000 miles since january 19th! 9,300 so far. ive been doing a lot of skiing but my MCL gave up the ghost and tore it last week; done skiing for the year. in the meantime, i now have time to focus on the truck. i skipped down to denver colorado and hungout with the boys at Sherpa Equipment Co, and met up with a local enthusiast and got some stuff done to the truck
IMG_0968
IMG_2055

anyways it was time to leave colorado and get back to my friends also in search of a job. made my way back to SLC
IMG_2084
IMG_2145

and all the way up to mccall. the snow was deep here so i had to test out the new compressor. the snow was way deep and it was 50 degrees outside so very heavy also. all i gotta say is.... SHIPPING MY LOCKERS DOWN TOMORROW. the truck did great but it definetly had limitations being open differentials. that is all for now i will update when i get more stuff done to the truck.

well, sincei have my ARB's getting shipped down i figure it was time to try and nail my suspension in the meantime. I am going to be running extended travel kings and SPC uppers REAL soon. the rear im having issues with. right now i have 890s and dont like them. i want something with great flex, 2.5" of lift, and can hold some weight. right now i dont have crazy amount of weight other than about 150# of my gear i brought with from alaska. i see everyones running 861's, but they have rear drawer systems, rear bumper setups, etc etc. i knew i was bound to have stupid lift if i ran an 861. thus, i conidered stock OEM LC 8 wraps. however, i knew i was going to have weight in my rear soon thus started doing research.

in conclusion, the DOBINSONS version of the 861 coil, also known as c59-220V, is basically the same thing as an 861, which is also known as a 1.5" lift and a siffer spring rate than OEM LC coil.. i then found the c59-210V which is a stock LC coil with 5% more stiffness. i think if i run the c59-210 i will be set around a 2.5" lift (okay to have small rake as i do tow) with the 200# of constant weight in the back.. any input??? does anyone have pictures of their runner on 8 wraps without a rear bumper setup???

since my last post, i installed my budbuilt skidplate, and my lil skips gas tank skid. things are some serious beef. i my spoiler was looking awefully dull so i also painted that the same color (rustoleum black hammered spray paint). it turned alright but i dont like it that much" i'd like to get it powdercoated to the same exaxct color of my TRD wheels.

IMG_1515
IMG_1521
IMG_1520

I somehow forgot to get pictures of lil skips but ill post it soon. heres what the spoiler looks now.

IMG_2438

aside from that i have been doing a lot of traveling and a lot of wheeling. My SPC UCA's came in but now stuck without my kings due to the virus. i went to sand hollow, and unfortunately had this happened on a difficult line. i just stalled out and slid back into a rock.

IMG_2439
IMG_2441
IMG_2430

im going to order a bumper from nguyen soon. with a dual swingout option and rotopax mounts. with that being said, onto further south. i passed through zion, and into arizona

IMG_2569
IMG_2543
IMG_2762

broken arrow trail in sedona was way fun. as easy or as hard as you want it to be. climbed and decented through the devils staircase was pretty rad. ive been rubbing pretty bad on my rear bumper where the mudflaps are so i removed them until i get a new bumper setup. these pictures are going to be a before pic of my flex as i ordered dobinson c59-210V rear coils, and black tokico shocks, also removing the swaybar when i install them. i also forgot to mention i have front/rear duro bumps on order and should be recieving them soon

IMG_2749
IMG_2751

stay tuned for the next update; i will be including a bunch of goodies for the truck

What an awesome read and build dude! I was in Moab with some buddies last week, and I was lucky enough to glance over at the right moment and see you driving south on I-15 as I was headed north back to Montana. Your truck is too clean, coming from a very budgeted college kid I'm mad jealous of all the upgrades. I've had my 2000 SR5 for nearly four years, and I've wanted a bunch of upgrades you've already done the whole time. Anyways, keep us updated, sweet truck!
