King Shocks and Headlights

well after a long nearly 2 months of nonstop issue with the company i had ordered my kings from, they're finally here. its been really hard not having my 2 posts anymore and finding someone willing to help me out with either a jack or lift. luckily i got all my stuff figured out. after a 1 1/2 hour install, my kings and Spc's are on the truck. i didnt have enough time to either adjust the coils or install the rear springs so i set the camber and went on my way. next day i installed the LC coils and black tokico shocks. i dont have much pictures of the ride height yet as im frantically getting some allignment parts as im going to MOAB next week i had an eccentric cam slip and a tab bent somehow.. ill post more when i get my stuff done.

i will be painting and restoring my frame/ axle soon. i dont have ANY cancerous rust or blown through spots and id like to keep it that way. this winter on the road was harsh with the first time my truck seeing salt.

after the suspension and allignment, i ran up a few hours to rexburg, idaho to meet up with a friend that owns Nomad Retrofits.. somehow ended up leaving looking like this

projector headlights? ill post more pictures on beam pattern soon. i adjusted them last night but want a few days for fine adjustments on the aim.

this is how the truck is sitting now. i put the stock cones on the LC80 springs with 10mm OME spacers.

that is all for now.

Allignment #1 sheet post-suspension

this ended up being my alignment sheet with setting G. this apparently is all they could do for the messed up eccentric and bent tab. my neighbor runs 333 fabrications and im going to be getting a set of squared eccentric eliminators. they have less adjustment option but i believe it'll get me to where my wheel isn't rubbing my firewall too dang hard. im fine with fixing and cutting my front i just would like to not touch the firewall side until i decide to go 35s. i dont want to do the same job twice. anyways heres the specs. first picture is the before, second is after. you can see how little caster i have. i now rub tire static and turning where before it only hit on 3/4 compression and turning..

IMG_2439
IMG_2438

if any of you guys are familiar with the SLC, Utah area do y'all have any recommendations on shops/ specific people to contact for an alignment? i went through fat-bobs in Layton Utah and they were nice but they didnt do what i told them to do and were messing with stuff i told them specifically not to do (change from setting G). when i asked if i could see whats up with my tab and eccentric they said no customers in shop. had to wait for the truck being done to look at whats wrong with it.. not too impressed from a guy who aligns vehicles themselves...

well i found out the shop had bent a 2 tabs and THEY stripped out my eccentric tabs. i called them and they were comprabe. My neighbor currently in bountiful, Utah runs 333 fabrications and recently came out with a "eccenntric eliminator" and i decided instead of running a new eccentric, ill use his new product. becuase it is a square, you can see that it only has 3 different specs to change from vs fine tuning. (positive, neutral, negative) this eliminated the changes of eccentric moving after wheeling and screwing your allignment up. it is suppose to stay the exact same unless you bed the tabs.. oh yeah about that. i go back to the shop and said i wont create a huge fuss and get reimburcements, etc etc if they were to just bend back the tabs that they bent, weld them so they dont bent back, and install these new tabs without charging me, and of course unscrewing their allignment they did. they were cool with that. this is the outcome of all that.

this is the allignment sheet from what they did on friday, to the UPDATED allignment after fixing their mistakes

IMG_2975

they told me they had camber issues and had to go to setting E is what i believe they said? they told me if it has ANY rubbing or if it drives shitty on the highway to bring it back and theyll redo it. allignment geeks andy input on the caster job? it drives alright i guess from the slight highway driving and city driving on the way home. well see if it rubs when i go wheeling.

ive been having an issue where i hit the brakes, my lights turn on. i turn my lights on, my brake lights stay on. my license plate bulbs, they intermittently work same with the whole brake/ light issue.. ive been doing mediocre lazy diags and havent replaced anything but a chafed trailer wire that i had thought was the issue.. i was sitting on the john the other day and remembered that older mercedes C/E-Classes have an issue with wires pulling apart in the trunk area creating really weird symptoms with lights, locks, etc.. I HAVE TO CHECK THIS! i pull my boot where the cab meets the hatch, and lone behold... my issue. not a bad find eh?

IMG_2452

repaired the wires and tested. all is good now.

on the other note, i just got a brand new 2020 trek remedy 8 MTB. with my Sherpa rack being loaded up, not having a rear hitch carrier, i wanted to do something out of the box.. something unique... my plan is to make a bracket system flush with the top of the side piece of the matterhorn and mount my bike via a hitch and buckle system to secure it. i think its going to be a genius idea. this is what i saw after some searching, and this is what im going to be making out of 1/2'' aluminum and gusseted (front thru-axle bracket)

Interesting..

I currently have BuiltRight Uniball UCAs that i'm considering turning into heim joint UCAs. I'm tired of having my alignment knocked out every time offroading so I'm planning on doing the 333 tabs with TC cam tab gussets.

I'm considering swapping out to SPC UCAs as well, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts on how the truck drives and etc. before doing this. Objectively probably cheaper for me to modify my UCAs as well. Why do you have such little caster?

i mean i guess it drives pretty good but i was wondering the same thing with the caster. if i rub i think im going to have them try putting the camber setting at neutral and back to setting G? i was trying to figure out why the caster is so little as well. elijah lund who is one of the big dogs for 333 has a caster of around 3.0 i think but hes on crazy long arm stuff.. the install was super smooth and painless (the SPC's). took me about 40 minutes for both sides torqued back to spec. they seem like they will do me well. im going to MOAB tomorrow so well see how the 3 1/2 highway trip feels with the new allignment and see if i rub when i go wheeling. i will post updates on both moab and ANOTHER allignment sheet if i get another one.

I mean from the SPC spec sheet running G is going to give you even worse caster. That 4Runner must want to wander all over the road or its closing on the verge to do so. Why are you so concerned with having it set on G? You shouldn't be rubbing that badly to begin with on 285s (possibly at full lock). Proper back spaced wheels help the most.

(SPC has two different pdfs for different bushings but the ball joint is the same)

nope doesn't wander. but like i said i only drove 20 miles home. yes going to G will create less caster but putting the camber plates to neutral should give me more caster without pulling it back too far (reccomended by my neighbor). my goal is to not touch pinchweld with these TRD pro wheels for when i go to 35's i tub the least amount possible (unwilling to run a bodylift, and to get a set of aftermarket wheels unless nice method beadlocks or trailready beadlocks) heres also a thread to consider if you havent seen this one already!

Nice idea on the DIY bike rack. Following that for sure. Check This Link out of a group buy that just happened on TacomaWorld. Maybe it can give you a few ideas. Looks pretty similar to what you're trying to accomplish.

Also, how are you liking those Vision X Light Cannons? I picked up three on a deal not too long ago, I just need to remove my current HIDs and put these in their place. Hoping they'll do the trick as far as spot light power goes.

It still has a bit positive caster so it shouldn't but definitely should have more than that. Steering wheel might feel a bit loose though.

Not sure why this forum is so against body lifts. They do a lot as far as adding suspension up travel and minimizing the amount of rubbing / tubbing for bigger tires. Weld new mounting points on your bumpers if you're worried about a body gap.

after driving 590 miles it drove great even at 110mph. i still rub and will going to be trying another alignment. im trying to have lowest COG possible and my bumpstops limit my up travel anyways. i dont want to run a spacer with my steering link to my rack, and i dont want to run into shifter issues when i soon go triple cases.

Lucy did GREAT! top of the world, fins & things, and hells revenge..
i went up the gate, tip-over challenge, and every hard line on fins & things, and Top of the world. (not sure if theres any names to them all or not)
other than some rubbing issues up front which i will try to address this week, it had zero issue and didnt break anything. i wanted to do a bunch more but i had a very unexperienced friend as a co pilot and i wasn't quite confident in his spotting ability (his first time ever off-roading before) and also, we were there for a bike trip with our brand new bikes for the season. had a great time, im too excited to go down to events there.
