we'll see how it goes! ended up getting the P/S pump done (i forgot what it feels like to drive it with one hand) along with fixing the headlights and spraying the axle tonight. want it reliable again for the time being while getting ready to take bigger steps with new axles & suspension. it drives amazingly well for road trips id like to obviously have as little down time as possible

What’d you spray the axle with? Just fluid film and wd40 like earlier or? Mine needs it bad too haha

Cruise control relocation: How to

ive been steady cruising through the to-do list i made a couple weeks ago, ill post more when i have a few more items done but i have HAD it not having cruise control anymore. when i built my ARB compressor bracket utilizing the CC bracket, its been ditched for over a year now and has been agonizing on road trips. i finally put my foot down and began the process of mounting the CC elsewhere.

this will basically be a step to step proccess on how to relocate your cruise control if you had to ditch your cruise control from a turbo setup, compressor, etc.

I needed to mount the CC in a spot where stuff is still easy to service, and ease of bolting on and off whether it be from a custom nut insert setup, or oem location. first thing first was i knew i didnt have enough length on the connector to move it anywhere. I went to the junkyard, and found a 2000 4runner with the body harness still. i unplugged the harness, and cut a big section out thinking i can just cut and splice for an easy extention, that way ill have the OEM wires vs some solid wired that would be hard to diagnose from looking at a FSM. the connectors were different styles but included same color wires in the pack. i assume connector differences are 96-97 & 98-02?

- cut even length around 2-3 inches back of the OEM CC male connector from your 4runner
- splice in extention section you had snagged from junkyard vehicle

IMG_0970
IMG_0971

-put looming on new "extention harness" to A. appear more proffesional B. more weather resistant. make sure you insert two pieces of heat shrink before you connect wires to properly seal the looming
-leave ends of extention harness out to connect to body harness of your 4runner
-solder/crimp wires from extention to the body harness

IMG_0972
IMG_0973
IMG_0974
IMG_0975

alright, now that we've spliced in the harness extension, your connector setup should look like the last photo above. my 4runner is a '96 using the 4 pin setup, yours may be the bigger connector style but perform same process.

next up is creating the bracket.

-we will be taking off the 10mm bolt on the passenger firewall area that is next to the body/engine harness pass thru.
-your engine harness will be connected to a bracket via a tab. remove the bracket and carefully disconnect the harness mount from the tab.
-you will trace the size of the cruise control box, followed by a 1.5" wide X 3" piece on the corner. this is what it will look like for a visual reference. i used .125 (1/8") flatstock steel for this bracket

Screen Shot 2022-01-04 at 11.36.36 PM

mark where CC module holes need to be, followed by marking a 1/4" hole in the middle of the 1.5" tab, and 1" upwards. bend similar angles to this picture.

IMG_0982

lastely, cut an inch off the OEM bracket we unbolted and weld the tab on the front right side looking at the face of the connector. this is to hard-mount the engine harness again. it will look like this.

IMG_0982
IMG_0979

- mount and fasten bracket with the10mm bolt and set at approx 20 degree angle to clear the hood
-install CC cable onto throttle body actuator
-install engine harness connector on cut OEM tab we welded to secure

and youre back to having cruise control

IMG_0984

please let me know if any steps need to be more detailed. it sure it nice to have CC again!

ive been making slow & steady progress on the 4runner. my key hasnt been working on my driver side door lock so its been inconvienent. i door the handle apart, and i ended up pencil grinding some of the brass nubs off the lock mechanism. this is the last thing i reccomend but it is obviously more worn than the passenger side form taking it apart. i think im going to try and putting the passenger cylinder lock onto the driver side??

you can see the nub i took off the middle. works every time now so far

i then proceeded to do another set of steering rack bushings. i forgot how much of a pain they are, especially after a full year now of abuse i had this super gnarly clunk i was hoping to get rid of and it is no longer clunking when i turn. the old poly bushing werent SMOKED yet like the last pair i did, but they did show quite a bit of wear.

cleaned up the 4runner and headed to denver to remotely fix one of my vans and also see the sherpa guys.. look at that raptor line shine after a year of me neglecting the 4runner

lastly, this is a project im working on for the 4runner currently, although it wont end up looking exactly like this. it helps you get the idea though

i really dont like black accessories but i decided to take a risk and im really glad with how it looks. ive designed chainsaw mounts, and a few other mounts for the rack that ill be carrying on bigger trips.

headlights are almost done im just waiting on some squadron pro's to come my way to seal the deal. i also have another ARB seal kit coming in so i can go back to having lockers. engine is not doing hot it eats a lot of oil and is starting to make noises

Sure looks good with a Sherpa rack back on it! I'm really curious how your headlights will turn out. Have plenty of questions but maybe you'll post how you did them so I'll save them. Remind me, are you just gonna run the 3.4 until it blows, then swap something in?

yep ill be showing how i did everything with the headlights including the end outcome, beam pattern etc.

im probably going to end up riding this 3.4 until it grenades. i just barely bought a spare block im going to be doing new bearings and rings on along with some ARP studs and MLS head gasket for the turbo setup i want to do. if it blows before this happens, itll just hang tight in the garage for awhile until other engine is done

What do you think of the LCE heavy flywheel? Would you do it again?

That's basically the same roof box I have - It had too much rear overhang with the stock cross bars, so I can actually install it on the 4Runner now. You can still fit 2 bikes or another ski/board carrier on the other side:
