My 6 month policy just dropped about $1/ month. It was going up about that much the last few years so its odd that it went down. Ive never had it drop until the new policy effective next month Maybe its your postal code that plays into it, but a 45% increase is ludicrous!

A 2001 is cheaper to insure than a 1999, why? The 2001 is "safer" according to the stats they use; which are essentially "cooked books" that we cannot dispute.

I removed comp and collision from my 4runner and only carry liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist; without those you're screwed if you get hit by a gardner.

I'm with State Farm too, and supposedly enjoy a "multi line discount"

My gf is with Esurance and just totaled her car in a single-car accident (hydroplaned in the rain into the center divider @50 MPH.) She's okay minus a few bruises but got a FULL, high replacement value payout within 7 days of claim. No haggling, just a direct deposit after a phone call with the settlement amount. She was happily surprised, and so was I.

Maybe it's time to shop insurance companies.

Thanks for the additional feedback and thoughts.

As with most folks, my insurance company covers are vehicles as well as home. It's often beneficial to do so... I left previous insurance providers for various reasons like this, but this time not it's not easy as our home is now in a designated high fire area; and quotes are quite a bit higher than our current premium, which is seemingly locked-in. I'll make it a point to check again...

I would call around, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

After turning 40 two years ago my premiums on the 3rd gen and Silverado went down. Come to think of it the 4Runner (99) is more expensive than the Silverado (04) to insure.

Insurance is a dirty business......

Almost the same here. Paying $100/6 months for liability only.

I sent-off a couple emails last night requesting quotes, starting first with our residence (homeowner's insurance).

BostonJon - Curious, are you paying that in Boston, or Boston area?

Nope - we keep the 4R at some rural property we have in OH.

nope, not yet. Progressive, and dropping price slightly as we age. 3 miles from work in a small town in the PNW. $486 for 6 months for full coverage on Prius, liability on T4R.

Ok, it's not just me then. 2001 SR5 here in Northern Cal and my rates went way up too. My wife is asking me wtf happened with the auto insurance.

I just aquired it last year in March and adding it on back then wasn't even a blip on our auto policy. This year's renewal ....totally different story and it's gone up > $700 for the year...whoa there Skippy! Me and my agent are going to have a heart to heart.

Liability and collision coverage for the 4runner costs more than on my 2014 228i.

Started this thread about a year ago, and unfortunately it happened again. Now - $334. So:

$164 -> $180 -> $238 - $324

In about two years of being liability only, I've seen stepped increases of: 10%, 32%, and 36%. Nearly a 100% gain from when it was $164 in 2018.

I might need to have a different company for auto insurance, unfortunately...

Tony,

My 6-mo premium is about where you are now and has been like that for the last few years. It didn't even change when moving from CA to GA.

We also have a CRV of similar vintage and it's always like $50 less than the 4Runner (maybe because it has ABS!)

My two cents when it comes to all types of insurance: shop around with every company out there, leave nothing to chance.

I shopped around for home owners insurance just last year in South Carolina and received a much more comprehensive coverage plan that before while still managing to save over $900 from the previous year.

Paying less than $40 monthly from my Good Neighbor insurance company on the 4Runner, liability only, with coverage up to $750k.

If your 4TR is a second vehicle and you have another vehicle that is a daily driver you may want to look into a specialty insurer such as Hagerty.
I have my 02 year 4TR insured with Hagerty, full coverage, $100 collision deductible, $0 comprehensive deductible, $8500 stated value.
I have no mileage restrictions and can drive anywhere I desire at any time.
I imagine if I started putting 10K+ miles annually they would want an explanation as this is not currently insured as my daily driver.
I have other vehicles so mileage is usually no more than 5K annually.
I pay $160 annually for above coverage in NYS.
