Opinion on pricing of this 3rd Gen?

I'm looking for a good solid foundation for an back country build and found this 3rd gen I am considering for the project. Do you gents think this is a good price?

Vitals:

3.4L

5 speed manual

268,000 mi

2 inch rough country lift

New BFG KO2’s

Post-cat exhaust cut-out

All maint done

No rust that I can detect

Very clean and never offroad that I can tell

$8500 firm

So it seems to be on the higher side for 250k+ miles. Usually you dont see over $8k asking price unless the odo starts with a 1. The thing is that its a 5spd which are much less common than automatics and he probably knows that some of us (especially on this forum) are willing to pay to have the ability to change gear ourselves.

To give you some perspective thats what my Dad paid for a bone stock 00 5spd SR5 with 86k on the odo back in 2010 here in NC.

Thats another thing, if youre in Colorado, its going to be different from me here on the east coast. Do a little shopping on Cars.com or CL and see if you cant find something a little cheaper. If it were me I wouldnt go for it unless he would be willing to get closer to 6500 or 7000, which is still high but not near as bad.

Hope it helps and good luck!

Yup, it has about 100,000 miles too many for that price. Also, the Rough Country lift is exact that, rough. It's a bargain brand that won't last very long.

Knock about 2-3k off that price or keep looking.

If it's clean like you say, I'm sure someone will eventually pay that price just for the 5sp. You guys gotta decide if that is too much for you or not. If it were an auto, I'd guess $4-6k value depending on just how clean it was.

pricing response

Hi,
FWIW
3 months back I purchased a '98, 3.4l, 5-speed, 178,000 miles.
Not one dent or scratch on the original paint.
Stock condition, except the ARB front bumper and front locking hub (Aisin) conversion)
garage kept the past 10 years (the second owner)
CA truck entire life.
I paid him $8,900. no negotiating.
It's a stunning truck.

The CO asking price is high, compared to my find.

Good luck!

I just picked up a stock '99 Limited with 184k pretty clean in Denver for 5k. I would say be patient.

Picked up my super clean '00 SR5 auto with 168k on the odo for 2 grand less than that. New tires are worth something, but I'd keep looking.

That is too high IMO. OTOH, if you have to have a 5 speed, your are really painting yourself into a corner.

Cast a wide net and be patient (most importantly) and you'll find a better deal.

Good luck,

Eddie

Usually I sell patched frame gen 3's with 175-200k for $3-5k here in southern Maine 50 miles from Boston. I just bought a clean frame/body 01 w/ 175k and a fresh timing belt and exhaust for $3500 and sold it for $5k to a friend without doing anything to it. If I had it detailed, did a couple of minor things to it and fluid filmed it I would have asked around $6500. If I lifted it, put nice wheels and tires on it I would have been ecstatic to get $8k. I know markets are different all around the country and gen 3's are super hot right now, but be patient, that's a little too much for a nearly 300,000 mile vehicle.

what is a post cat exhaust cutout? I think I had one of those, meaning the exhaust rotted off after the cat, it sounded like ass and gave me a headache from the fumes.

that price is way too much for a vehicle with near 300k miles and an exhaust leak
