for $8k I hope that comes with a reach around and comes fully loaded with some hookers and blow!
That's entirely WAYYYYYYYYY too stepp for that mileage even if its 100% rust free unless they truck comes with every future mod you want, steel bumpers, lift, tires, swingouts, armor, etc.

I haven't made an offer. I agree that $8000 is too much. Maybe I'll offer $4000 to see if he bites.

Tell the guy to go F&ck himself. 5K is too much for a 3 owner 240K 4runner with no proof of timing belt or rad being done.

I'd walk far far away from anyone offering a ridiculous price like that. Either a) they're trying to rip you off - even if you get them to drop the price, there's probably other stuff they're being dishonest about. Or b) they know absolutely nothing about cars and didn't do their research before picking a price, which isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but certainly isn't comforting.
Finding a cheap high mileage 4Runner in decent condition isn't that hard. If it's for your kid it doesn't need to be pretty right? Keep looking, you'll find something better I'm sure.

No worries with the high miles. I bought mine with 341k on the clock! The previous owner bought it with 40k in 2000 and put 300k on it in 12 years! I wasn't scared of the mileage, because I can turn a wrench. If you look at the high mileage thread, there are more than a few dozen members with trucks well past 400k miles. I'm coming up on 385k in the next few weeks, and plan to keep this original engine and trans going as long as possible! You'd be surprised just how reliable these trucks can be even with crazy mileage. There's almost nothing on these trucks that's beyond the home mechanic, short of machining engine blocks, and rebuilding transmissions. Almost everything else can be done in your driveway with a few tools.

I just picked up my 2000 SR5 1 owner Arizona no rust 4Runner with 270k for $3400. I feel I got a pretty good deal.

It's pretty rough but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. It was throwing all kinds of codes and it freaked them out. I got the sheet from Autozone and instantly recognized what was going on (O2 sensors and MAF). They had it listed for $2500 but I threw $1400 at them because of the code printout and they took it. Replaced them all for $200 and all the codes went away.

I got mine at 214k for $1000 IN CALIFORNIA. That price is the only reason why I don't have a CJ or a Bronco or K5 Blazer right now

Just paid $6500 for a 200 with 220k miles on the clock. Timing belt was done at 209k miles. Stuff in Middle Tennessee is HIGH, especially 4Runners. I looked at a couple 07 that were 16k, looked at a 98 with 300k he was asking $5k. My son bought this once, I figure it was a fair price, it already was lifted, BF KO2 tires, 18 inch wheels. He would have spend 2k doing stuff to it, everything was already. It's got a few nicks and scratches but it's 19 years old.

When the frame is rusted beyond repair, it gets totalled, or you have a combination of rust, blown engine, transmission, electrical problems, high mileage, etc that add up to too many things to fix on such an old, high mileage rusty vehicle. (I don't scrap them by the way, they go out back as parts vehicles)
