Quick question, I’m going to be changing the water pump and timing belt soon and was wondering what brand is good to get? I was looking at Rock Auto and I saw the OEM Aisin brand there? How are the other brands like this Dayco one, https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ent+kit,16088?
Will this be good enough or will I need any other parts?
I also saw this on another post, TBK Timing Belt Kit Toyota 4runner 1996 to 2002 3.4L 5VZFE V6 Toyota Tacoma 1995-2004 vehicles with Ol Cooler Aisin Water pump Mitsuboshi Timing Belt Bando Brand Drive Belts Japanese seals GMB Bearing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0039VMSCU..._BINaDbJQW4SZX
Will I need all these parts that’s being sold from Amazon or can I just go with what Rock Auto is selling as far as kits go?
The mechanic I’m going to is charging me $650 for OEM parts and that’s not including labor. For aftermarket he’s charging me $450. So I’m just trying to gauge if I will need any extra parts that is being sold on the Amazon link or are the links I posted from rock auto good enough.
The OEM rock auto kit will be fine. The extra parts that are being replaced by the amazon kit would be good to switch out at the time since you are already in there, but wouldn't be super critical. Don't cheap out on the timing belt because this is a job you don't want to do or pay for twice sooner than you have to.
I think most people on here would agree that "aircabinman" on ebay has the best kit with OEM parts at the best price. Look up his store, since he has a couple options for these kits with more/less parts that can be replaced. The full kit runs about $250
I think I've gotten 5 kits from him so far? (2 t-belts and counting on the wife's 96, one on my '99, a couple of Camry-Highlanders). Good stuff.

Stay with MITSUBOSHI timing belts (AISIN kit comes with mitsuboshi). Mitsuboshi is the OEM supplier of toyota timing belts. I have dayco timing belt on my corolla and at 50K miles (5 years), it has cracks!! Same goes with Drive belts: Bando is good but Mitsuboshi is the best. I had bando in my car and in less than 400 miles, It stretched and had to adjust it. With Mitsuboshi drive belt, I did 1100 miles and still the belt is on its original length!!
Aisin kit got KOYO bearings and other kits got cheap bearings.
Use OEM cam and crank seals (OEM seals are made by a company called "NOK" Buy from a dealer) there are fake seals and it is called KOK.
Weekendclimber, thanks for posting the link to aircabinman. I never buy stuff off FeeBay (excessive fees, outrageous ripoff) but ... made an exception. Hope I don't regret dealing with FeeBay on this, but it is worth the risk for the quality and general completeness of the timing belt kit.
One thing: Ya gotta replace the harmonic balance bolt (the big mug that holds the HB to the crank, up there at 213 foot-pounds for my 1999 4R, IIRC), and that is not in the kit. And for this critical application, only OEM Toy will do. If you know a source other than bending over at the stealership, please post up.
Thanks again!
Oh, and kit goes about $260 now, with tax, about 280. But S&H is free, so ...

Camelback Toyota, McGeorge Toyota, Conicelli Toyota, Amazon, there's many place. It lists MSRP at $8.45, but with shipping for most of those it ends up cheaper for such a small part to get it locally. Part #90119-16006

I was never happy with the seal fitment of OEM. I ended up buying Napa cam and crank seals. Any seal I can set in place with my fingers I’m never going to trust.
Breathing life into an old thread. I bought my Runner with 236k miles from a used car lot. Having done some pre-purchase research on 3rd gen 4Runners, I knew the TB/WP needed replacement every 90k miles. I asked if they knew when the service had last been done, since I didn't see a sticker in the engine bay, and was told the car lot's mechanic had done it a couple weeks prior. I asked for a copy of the receipts and they handed me an O'Reilly's receipt for: Import Direct Water Pump, Gates PowerGrip Timing Belt, Murray Plus Straight Thermostat, some outlet seal and a copper seal. The date on the receipt was about a month before I bought the Runner and the part#'s on the receipt are listed for an '02 Runner.
Currently sitting at 268k miles, should I just do the service when normally scheduled at 270k (with OEM kit listed in previous posts) or trust that the currently installed parts will last another 70k miles??
