Looking for advice: rebuilding spindles+new bearings+seals (4WD)

Spend three hours at the pull yard this morning pulling off the two front spindles.

The truck was 2002 2WD but I understand the spindles are the same for 2WD and 4WD but different bearings set up.

I called the stealership and they wanted $,1500 to replace the bearings and also said “we will replace the hubs as well because we usually damage them taking them out!” I thought to myself “WTF?” They admit to tearing them up and charge the customer.

Anyways, I have the two spindles, will purchase OEM bearings and seals for the 4WD and my question is this; do machine shops usually do this kind of work (pressing out and pressing in new bearings+seals? Is there a place I can send it for this work? They require bearings, seals, snap ring and ABS ring.

To be honest. The front wheel bearing job isn’t much different then the rear. Basically pain in the ass. As everything is basically press off, press on. There should be no reason why the hubs should get damaged from removing it. Especially if pressed out. Even if you bang the hub out with a beater. Only thing you’ll slightly damage is the from it. Easily fixed with little grinder. If you have space , get harbour freight press. And do it your self.

As these spindles came from a 2WD vehicle, what do I need to do different to install 4WD bearings, seals?

Timmy's got a video on this or at least one related to the manual hub swap. It does take some careful presswork to get the bearings out and in but you really don't have to count on destroying your spindles.

I know this is a DUMB question but are the hubs different between a 2WD and 4WD? I believe they are as the CV axle has to come through a 4WD hub.....correct me if I am delusional...LOL

Not a dumb question. Here's a diagram

1999 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5(-0008),BASE(0008-) 2700CC EFI, MANUAL, 5-SPEED FRONT AXLE HUB

I believe spindles are the same. The hubs are similar. The 2WD one had a stopper on the inside and no splines in the center. The 4WD one is splined for the CV axle. Bearing part numbers are the same.

Also, here are the front wheel bearings I used. They are are Koyo (premium Japanese, Koyo makes lots of Toyota's bearings) and are cheaper than buying OEM.

Man - really appreciate the tip on the KOYO bearings. That will save some $$$$!

My original front bearings and ball joints have 360K+ miles on them (still tight), but I figured I'd tackle these now. I just put in an order yesterday with Mcgeorge Toyota. I put in a new OEM steering rack with tie rods a couple months ago. This should push me over the 700K mark.

Looking at the post before this the OEM ones actually came in cheaper! Now that I look back when I ordered these Koyo ones they were like $40 per side...
