94-Runner possible theft?

Parked , turned off ignition & removed key returning to find vehicle moved forward roughy 5 ft with shifter in drive position.
Needless to say I was puzzled on what took place.
Ignition cylinder is in tact no wires pulled etc everything looks normal which brings me to this question.
Is it possible to remove ignition key in off position while in drive gear on automatic transmission.
I’ve tried dozens of times trying to recreate such event but have been unsuccessful.

No damage but in order to push vehicle it must be neutral or drive gear key in ignition - start position.
Seeing keys were in my pocket , that outcome can be ruled out.
That being the case , How did It get in drive gear.
