High idle then slowly drops down.

I have a 99 that when started idled around 1500 then slowly drops down to 750-800 after 5 minutes. When I put it into gear it sits at 1000.

I cleaned TB. Took IAC off after stripping a screw and cleaned it out didn’t look too dirty.

I have a pink wire that connects to the back of power steering pump that’s just sitting there not connected to it. Could this be the problem? Also what is it? Is there a connector that’s missing?

Thanks.

1000 rpms in gear sounds high to me. It should be closer to 700 rpms. If it were 1000 rpms in Park, that would be different.

OP, you could have an issue with your throttle position sensor or you possibly have a vacuum leak somewhere. Inspect your vacuum hoses to make sure they are all connected with no obvious cracks or breaks.

2nd the TPS

Mines manual trans and it was a little weird w startup. Not enough to cause concern. Maybe like yours. I got a couple TPS codes recently that reset themselves right away. I got new oem tps and warmup is super smooth now. I was surprised to find out it was even an issue. Tps is just a pot sweep so those will go weird with time.

1000 rpm in gear is a little high, I missed that detail.
