Tundra Coil + Tundra Shock or Bilstein 5100

I hope I'm not beating and repeating, but I couldn't find anything like this when I searched around.

There's a TRD Tundra being parted out on craigslist. I'm planning on upgrading my suspension in a few weeks, and was planning on the TRD Tundra coils and Tundra 5100s in the front with 5100s and my current OME 891s in the rear. I'm currently running a 1" Daystar spacer in the front and just the 891s in the rear.

Should I grab the whole coilover assembly off the Tundra? How does the Tundra shock compare to a Bilstein 5100, and would I still get the 3" of lift I want without the adjustability? All I've seen is that people swap the coilover or steal just the coils, but how about a comparison of TRD coil + shock and TRD coil + Bilstein 5100 shock. Thanks.

Tundra TRD coils+Tundra 5100's on 3rd setting I'm about 3.5" in the front.
If you want 3" lift I'm sure the 2nd setting will be pretty close to 3" lift.
Anything higher than the 3rd setting will ride like sh1t.

I think the stock tundra shock would sit somewhere between 2 and 2.5" without a spacer.

Does anyone know how the stock tundra shock rides? I might just grab the coilover and if it doesn't sit as high as I like or ride nice then change it to the 5100s later on.

Tundra coil problem

I spent all day trying to install yy/yb tundra springs with 5100's on second notch from bottom and the balljoint hits the spring I think i tried 4 different ways has anyone else had this problem? I was using the truck jack to compress the uca to get the bolt in I tried filing it down still hits all stoked to get it lifted now I don't know what to do.

got the 7wrap Lc's ready to go in

Watch speedys garage 4runner lift install on YouTube. He's a member on here and I remember him saying something about that and how to fix it

I think he spun the coil 180 degrees and it cleared.

I would buy the coil and shock/strut assembly from a TRD Tundra. Most likely if you buy from a salvage yard your going to get both anyway. I have heard you can get about 1.5" with TRD coils and stock Tundra struts. I bought a pair for $100, but never ran the stock struts. I have the adjustable Tundra 5100's on the lowest setting. I believe it netted me about 2.75" to 3". I tried the second setting and it gave me about the same amount of lift and a rougher ride. There are some variables that will give you different results. Mine is a 2000, which from the factor sits the lowest of any years. I haven't bothered to check but I am guessing mine may have settled some.

I didn't have any issues with getting them installed.

I installed the stock coilover from the TRD. It rides fine. It's not mushy at all, and not too stiff. It is firm though, but I like that. It rides similar to a truck, but better than the Dodge I had before this. As my dad says, it rides smooth on smooth roads, rough on rough.
I got just at 2" of lift with the setup. I had it paired with 906s and it looked great. I installed a set of LC coils in the back, so I added a 1" top plate spacer and right now I'm at 3".
If your budget covers 5100s I would go with them though. You get new shocks, and the adjustability. I will be changing out to those in the next few months, but only cause the stock TRDs are getting up there in mileage.

2013 Toyota Tundra TRD Coils

Hi,

I have read through as many of these threads as possible, but can't find the answer to the following question.

Context - I am trying to lift my 2002 4runner sr5 4wd similar to Speedy's Garage video. I have Bilstein 5100s all around and already purchased the fronts struts (shocks and coils) from a 2013 Toyota Tundra TRD off craiglist. It is a Bilstein 4600 shock, which is way too long, and hopefully a coil I can use on the new Bilstein 5100 shock. All the threads seem to refer to older versions of the Tundra coils (prior to 2006).

Question - Will the 2013 Toyota Tundra TRD coils fit with the Bilstein 5100 on my 2002 T4R? I am not sure why it wouldn't. maybe it is a different diameter? different length?

Thanks!
