Ditch light / A-pillar brackets

What are the various offerings for us? I see CBI Off Road, SRQ and Rago Fabrications...

3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner Ditch Light Brackets | 1995.5-2002 - CBI Offroad Fab

96-02 4runner, 95-04 Tacoma Ditch Light Brackets | SRQ Fabrications

1995-2002 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner Ditch Light Brackets - Stainless Stee – Rago Fabrication

I seem to recall others though.

If there are any thoughts to which one provides the most secure mount, do share...

My first thought is that the ones that attach to the hood hinge bolts would be the best and most sturdy. Drilling holes in the A pillar and/or using self tappers to mount them seem to just beg for rust, water leaks, and issues down the road.

I am curious about wind noise though.

That was my conclusion also. Didn't see any other offerings... Went with the CBI ones.

I have CBI, and feel they're the best for the money. The SRQ mounts require you to drill into your pillar, and I don't need anymore help with rust issues. The Rago ones are nice, but stainless is pointless when powder coated. Kind of defeats the purpose of using a rust resistant material.

A bit more than bent metal.

If you understand the entire manufacturing process for these the cost does make sense. It'll show you whose doing it right, and who isn't. Just guessing on this but he's my estimate on CBI's cost. This doesn't take into consideration transportation to the powder coat shop considering they don't offer it in house. Plus there's always random shop expenses like stocking, moving, shipping, and so on.

Price breakdown:
*7 gauge CR plate - $200 per 4x8 sheet (32 square feet)
*Roughly .52 square feet per part
*Roughly 60 per sheet ($5.33 each)($2.00 each + operator + shop rate)(depending on nesting you could fit up to 80 on a sheet, but hard to tell without a file)
*Forming approx 90 second per part ($2.00 each)(operator + shop rate)
*Powder Coating (1/4lb per part)($3.64 each)(operator + powder cost)
*Total: $21.94 per pair cost and selling for $44.99 with free shipping

The ones SRQ sells is either low volume or poor nesting with a high yield based on the price. Rago is pricey, but is in line with the cost of stainless. CBI really has a fair price considering what's involved to make these.

Onboard with the math Mike, thanks. I've done my share of fabricating, even some on this 3rd gen, and I just don't want any additional projects at this time. A couple hours of my time and keeping other commitments and promises, more than worth it for me...

Of possible note, I didn't get free shipping from CBI. It was like 12 bucks. I didn't see any specials or discount codes, but I'll check again...

I love building my own stuff, but sometimes you need to think what your time is worth. Sometimes my time is better spend in the mountains camping than behind a grinder.

CBI used to offer free shipping on orders over $50. I know it was like that for a long time, but maybe they did away with it.

CBI is definently the way to go. I have never understood why someone would want to or be ok with drilling holes in the a-pillar. You are asking for water leaks in the future.
