1999 SR-5 Running Board fabrication

My '99 SR-5 has factory running boards. They are necessary for my wife to make the big step to get in and out. The RBs are the only rust on the vehicle. I have come completely dry with Toyota and with local savage/pick and pay places as far a buying replacements. The local Trick Trucks looked at it and pronounced they factory installed and wished e luck

My proposal is to use 2x6 inch angle (steel or aluminum) as a replacement running board. I am working with a local techie group to 3-D print replacement mudflats if necessary. I am planning to coat the new running boards with bed-liner to weather protect them, get them to blend into the Jade Green pain, and to give some non-slip coverage. I looked into using a box member instead of angle, but there is a mote than 2x-cost difference.

I am asking for any and all comments and suggestions on my proposed fix. Questions include: Is aluminum worth the extra cost? Is 6061 aluminum rigid enough for this application? And the big--Does the existing running board have a fitment that extends into the fairing?

Thank you for reading and for your input.
