Need to change my rear lift??

I currently run the Toytec Ultimate lift. It consists of OME 890's in the rear with OME shocks. I have a full plate bumper, a 12" subwoofer and a plastic box with tools, recovery gear, ect. I would say about 300 lbs total. I also load down with camping gear and people occasionally.

The rear sits 22.5 from fender to center cap. I love the ride but my issue is that there is only 2" from axle to bump stop and when I go over mild bumps on the road I bottom out. I talked to Toytec and they recommended OME 906's.

I purchased the 906's and 10mm trim packs, but I am having doubts this is going to give me what I want. I don't love the idea of bags, but if that's what I need so be it.

I want 22.5 - 23.5 lift in the rear, good off road flex and no more bottoming out with load. Sooner than later I might want to run 33's.

Stay with 906? Ditch the 906 and go 891? LC coils? I have not done my research but I know its an option. Air Bags?

Please provide thoughts. Thanks

I have no idea why Toytec would recommend 906’s if you’re trying to be at or above 22.5” with a load like that. Even though their spring rate is higher, they’re a much shorter coil. The 891 probably won’t be enough to keep you above 22.5” either with the load you run plus extra camping gear and people unless perhaps the trim packers help get you there. I would think the Superflex are what you want since they are 23.5” hub to fender unloaded (on my rig with no added weight and stock inner cone bump stops) and are designed to keep you at 23” with a 400 lb load.

Here’s a couple links for good reading while I’m at it.

I have been second guessing the recommendations also and have held off installing the 906. I am continuing research of the super flex. I also see they have a 3” spring.

Need to change my rear lift??

Definitely don’t do the 906 - i had them, with stock bumper + about 100lbs In back and I was only at 21” hub to fender.

I have 891 now and carry about 100 lbs in the back at all times. I am now 22.75” hub to fender.

I’m pretty sure once I do put a bumper on the back + sliders I will most likely go up to OME 861.

It also does seem like I get 1/2” less lift than most people on the back with each setup. My body bushings in the back may be compressed so I will probably get the poly ones too.

I'm a bit confused here. You have a ~2.5" lift over stock, and you only have 2" from axle to bump stop? Are you talking about the inner cone bump stops (they act more like helper springs) or the hard bump stops on the frame?

Have you put bump stop extensions on or something? At a 20" ride height with stock bumps, the cones are about 1.5" from the axle and the frame bump stops are closer to 3.5"

Yes. I have toytec bump stop extenders in place on the frame.

I ordered the Toytec Superflex this morning. Sucks UPS wants $50 to return them.

Unless the OME shocks you have on there require the bump stop extensions, why not remove the bump stop spacers? That will get you the bump travel you are looking for. You can also put 10mm trim packers on both sides to just get a touch more lift.

I put them on there because they came with the lift kit. The rear shocks are OME 60028. I do not know if they need these extenders or not.

The OME 890's on there now have settled to give me 22.5 between hub and fender and I would like to be closer to 23.5. I also tend to carry a lot of gear when wheeling.

So I got the Superflex springs in there

Before with 4 year old 890’s I was at 22.5
Now with superflex I’m at 23.25 driver. 23.5 passenger. Yesterday when I installed them I was at 24. Both sides before a fill up.

That’s quite a bit of settling in 24 hours?? I hope they don’t settle any more. I was hoping both sides would end up at 23.5 or more.

Oh. And these were a pain to get in. The 890 came right out. I had to get a compressor to get these in.

Did you loosen the pivot bolts on both ends of all 5 links? Every time you change ride height, you should loosen all the pivot bolts and re-tighten at the new ride height... Also significantly helps installation of springs, shocks, etc.

If the superflexes settle too much you could go with OME 861s. They may give a bit more lift than you want but they will handle the weight. I'm not sure what my hub to fender is in the rear but I can measure if you want a comparison point.

I did not. Never did that with the OME 890's. Good call tho.
