*PIC UPDATES* It begins! Just started picking up parts for my '02 build

Hey everyone, new to the forum but really appreciate all of the information here so far. I picked up an '02 Sport a couple of months ago and just started putting together pieces for what I hope to be a fun trail/camp/surf truck. This site has been tremendously helpful for me both before I got my 4Runner and now that I'm about to make some modifications. Thanks to the community for the insight so far.

I'll make updates to this post over the next couple of weeks but here's what we're starting with and a few of the things that I'm planning for in the near future:

Current State:
- 2002 T4R Sport in Sunfire Red Pearl
- Just crossed 200k miles and it runs like new
- Pretty much dead stock across the board

Planned Upgrades (Phase 1):
- 231mm Tundra brake upgrade
- SCS Ray 10s in Matte Dark Bronze 17'' (just ordered yesterday - was considering 16'' but wanted to be sure I didn't have clearance issues on the 231mm brake upgrade)
- Falken Wildpeak in either 275 or 285 70/17
- Toytec Boss Performance lift ~2.5''
- General maintenance stuff (lower ball joints, radiator, etc.)

Planned Upgrades (Phase 2):
- SRQ HID headlight retrofit - these stock headlights are AWFUL
- Front/rear plate bumpers - leaning towards 4xInnovations, just looking for something clean and fairly tight to the body
- 4xInnovations sliders
- ??? I'm sure something else will come up as the build progresses - these things never really end

I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions along the way. Opinions and suggestions welcome.

Thanks - I don't think they have bolt on avail for the 3rd gens, but I had planned to weld on anyway. I'm going to leave the stock running boards on after the lift until I get the sliders since I use the roof rack pretty regularly for surfboards.

Me too (and thanks)! I wanted something that wasn't black/white/silver since my last few vehicles have been those colors, and the price was right on this one when it came along. Wasn't sure I'd dig the SRP as much as I do, but when the light hits it right it's really great. It could probably use a bit of paint correction to shine it up but that's lower priority for me right now than getting the functional bits sorted.

Lol j/k great start and a great platform. The all red trim & bumpers Sunfire Red is very rare.

HAHA! I don't know you, but I like your style! And you're not the first person to tell me that. It might end up on my list of mods when I get some of the other stuff knocked out. Really looking forward to the truck. Tons of fun so far.

Thanks - I was set on the Sport when I was looking. I hope the bronze goes with the rest of the look. I think it will be just different enough to stand out a bit.

Update time! Just got my truck back this week after wheels/tires/lift/Tundra brake upgrade and I couldn't be happier! For anyone in the SF Bay Area, check out SWAT Customs in Fremont. I'm sure they're on the forum. Great guys and they did fantastic work.

Love the Matte Dark Bronze SCS Ray 10s with the Sunfire Red Pearl. And the Toytec Boss Performance lift feels better than I had expected. I'd love to take a ride in a 4Runner running Kings or something similar because I can't imagine the ride could be too much better than the setup I have now (famous last words...I'm sure I'll want to upgrade sometime in the future).

Next steps are sliders and likely bumpers. Loving this thing so far!

Your wheel and tire combo is, as the milennials would say, fire . Can't wait to see what this thing is going to look life with a 4xI bumper - @traxman25 is the man. You need to do us all a favor and colormatch the bumper(s) with the body...

Thanks! I hadn't thought about color matching the bumpers if I swapped them for plate bumpers, but now that you mention it I kind of dig the idea. The color matched bumpers I have on now have grown on me.

Wow, looks great. What tire size did you end up landing on?

285/70/17. It rubs a little bit, but the running boards are temporary and it will go away after I swap them for sliders.

And thank you!

Agreed. Sliders are on the way in the next phase. I kept the steps because I regularly throw a surfboard on top and it's waaaaaay easier to step up on the running boards than to open the door and tie something to the roof.
