I have an 02 3.4 and intend on swapping over a factory elocker. I found a good donor at a local yard that has a 98 factory locker. I have watched Timmys video and read plenty of threads on the swap. I plan to obtain the rear axle, harnesses, locker ecu out of the donor 4R.
My question is in reference to the front diff. My rig has stock 4.10's. The swap will have 4.30's, so I intended on getting the front diff to swap in as well. Issue seems that there is a difference in the 01-02 front diffs. Apparently the earlier models (pre 01) have vacuum lines running to their front diff, where the 01-02 are electronic.
So whats the correct way to do this? Do I need to regear my front with a gear swap or can I swap front Diffs??
I did this swap on my 02. For the front, swap the A.D.D. tubes. Put your 02 tube on the 98 diff. You will need an E-14 torx socket and patience. You do NOT want to strip out those bolt heads. Also orange FIPG from Toyota is recommended. Might as well replace the axle seals while your there, just takes an extra 10 minutes.
IF the 98 is non-ADD, then you will also need to make sure swap the 02's stub shaft into the 98 diff.
