Interchangable Spares

Need a little guidance.

I have a travel trailer. It has exactly the same size tires/rims 265/75R16 as my '98 4runner. It has black procomp rims. Unfortunately, while they have the same lug pattern 6 bolt 5.5, they don't fit on my truck. The lugs have a different thread pattern and there just isn't enough room to screw them on.

The truck still has the stock 16" rims. What do I need to purchase so that I can use my truck's tires on the travel trailer?

ps- is anyone able to store a 265/75/16 under the truck in the spare tire location? Did you need to do anything to accommodate?

Thanks in advance!

My michelin atx lt2s (265/75/16) won't fit inflated, perhaps deflated, never tried that.

Luck.

The stock 5 star rim with a deflated tire fits in my stock location underneath. Dont know bad if it rubs the pan bar though as I havent dropped the tire to check.

While it may share bolt pattern, the hub bore may be different, and that's what's not allowing the trailer rim to mount to the 4runner. Looks like maybe the trailer rim has a smaller hub bore.

If it does fit (hard to tell in that picture) and the studs on the 4runner just aren't long enough, you may be able to buy longer studs to press in..

The stock 4Runner wheel uses a mag style lug nut, so you would have to find out the lug diameter, length and thread pitch of the trailer’s hub to be able to find the proper lug nut that would allow you to mount the stock wheel to the trailer. I’m sure the trailer manufacturer has a hotline you could call to confirm if the info isn’t readily available online.

Procomps use a weird extended shank lug nut. Post #8 here shows what they use, just for reference.

Are you trying to use the stock wheels on the trailer, or the Pro-Comps on the truck? I have the same 16 X 8 Pro-Comp LaPaz wheels on my 4Runner. You just need the correct lug nuts. They are 12 X1.5. They fit fine with Tundra brakes & 285/75-16 BFG. As far as I know there is only one center bore size they offer. If it's the stock wheels on the trailer, if you know the thread size and pitch of the studs, a good tire shop should be able to find you lugs that will work.

Both. I want the tires to be interchangable.
