2002 4Runner Sport V8 swap
I have a 1998 lexus gs400 with a clean and strong engine 116k miles. Can I swap that into a 2002 sport edition 4Runner? What would be involved? What would be a good cost to let some do the swap? Tanks!

Is that one of the years the GS400 had the VVTi motor? If so, it has an A650e 5-speed trans behind it that was never put in a 4WD vehicle... so no adapters exist to make it 4WD (I think a guy did a custom one once).
Otherwise, look up any of the 1UZ or 2UZ swaps on here to get an idea what is involved...

Sell the engine and use the proceeds to put a supercharger on it and you have V8 power for a whole lot less time and work.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible and am saying this with a smile:
If you have to ask what's involved... you ain't ready
haha, all jokes aside.. A LOT is involved. Like.. a ton.
If you paid someone to do it, i'd expect maybe $4-5k labor alone. And that could be the low end.
You will run into snags and a million little problems/roadblocks with an engine swap. Doing it yourself requires an extensive working knowledge. Not saying you dont have it, or cant do it-- you may be able to! But your truck will be down a long time and it will make you want to cuss and forget the idea altogether.
That said... I want a V8 3rd gen so badly!

If you have to ask you shouldn't be doing the swap. Just S/C it like gamefreak said and move on.

Agree with this. Unless you are looking for a challenge/side project.

A roaring v8 in a 3rd gen would be badass. I'm buying the 3rd gen next months and already have the gs400 and thought why not. I guess a supercharger would be less hassle.

If you are itching for a project and have welding skills, it could be a great project and rewarding. But if you don't have the skills/abilities to troubleshoot wiring, mounts, mating the transmission, etc. it will turn into a real headache.

Getting a transmission that will mate to the 1uz isn't much of a problem (there is an A340 bellhousing, etc. that works) - just then the (factory) ECU for the 1uz VVT-i wouldn't be able to run the transmission (its expecting an A650e, not an A340e/f). So, I suppose if he is ready for a standalone trans controller AND a standalone ECU, it'll work. The other option is the OEM 1uz/a650e ECU and custom adapting the transfer case.
Either one is a bigger challenge than finding a more appropriate donor vehicle.

Sounds like OP has the complete donor car. I'd swap the whole drivetrain and electronics, use an oil pan and oil pump pickup from a 4WD 2UZ. I don't know if there's an existing trans rear housing that'll adapt to the 3rd-gen transfer case, since Aisin didn't have a 4WD variant of the A650 series.
From what I've read here a UZ swap into a 4WD 3rd-gen requires a body lift to clear the front diff and steering shaft. For example GreenbowCounty's build up!
