Resources & OEM part number list for 199mm Tundra Brake Upgrade

Background
Just like @CO_FlyFisher, and @atalarico, I was coming down Colorado's I-70 towards Boulder and my vibrating brakes convinced me it was time to take the plunge on the Tundra Brake Upgrade. I have stock 16" 6-spokes on my 2000 SR5 and didn't want to grind them down (required to upgrade to 231mm), so I did all the digging on an "as OEM as possible" 199mm Tundra Brake Upgrade.

While @BigFishAllDay has the definitive reference thread for the 231mm brake upgrade, the OEM part numbers and information on the 199mm brake upgrade is a little bit scattered and hard to find. Hopefully this summary of my research can serve as the definitive resource for folks gathering up the parts to do a 199mm brake upgrade.

Lots of credit goes to @farmerjon 's build thread here which is where I got most of the part numbers from (some have been superseded in Toyota's catalog by updated part numbers, reflected in this thread). Hope this round-up is useful for folks!

Parts
The basic parts that you will need for a 199mm brake upgrade that stays as OEM as possible are as follows. I've included rough prices that you'd expect to pay from an online dealer like Camelbak (I personally use Boulder Toyota's online parts dept since they're local and price-competitive if I order online).

- 1 x set of OEM Brake Pads - 04465-0C012 - $58.24
- 2 x OEM Brake Rotors - 43512-0C011 - $126.00 ($63 ea) - note that the rotors are the same for the 199mm upgrade and the 231mm upgrade
- 1 x OEM anti-squeal shim kit - 04945-04012 - $18.75
- Calipers (see below)
- DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid
- Brake cleaner

Calipers
If you want new OEM 199mm Tundra Calipers, they're available as part numbers 477500C011 (left) and 47730-0C011 (right). That said, you'll pay around $300 per caliper, whereas quality remanufactured components with similar performance can be had for as little as $45/caliper.

You have a ton of choices for remanufactured calipers. I did a bunch of searching and reading, and these appear to be the three best options:
- If you want that TRD red powdercoat look, pick up a set of Power Stop S2632 calipers. Currently, these are available for $85.79 for a set of both left and right on Rock Auto.
- If you don't want the red, but you still want some kind of anti-rust coating besides bare cast iron (a good idea IMO), Cardone 19P2632 (left) and Cardone 19P2633 (right) calipers are probably your best bet. Current price is $44.79/caliper. People also really seem to like the NAPA Eclipse-branded black powdercoat remanufactured calipers, but they're twice the price, most likely made by the same company as the Cardone ones, and I don't think they're available in 199mm any more.
- The important thing if you're shopping around for remanufactured calipers is to plug in "2001 Tundra V8" as your vehicle and make sure you are purchasing 13WE casting calipers, NOT the 231mm "13WL" casting. The 13WL casting is for the 231mm upgrade.

Calipers, continued
If you choose to go with remanufactured calipers, there's a good chance they'll include a "core charge" that gets refunded when you send your old parts back to where you purchased them. On paper, this could cause a problem since you're buying Tundra parts and sending back 4Runner calipers. In practice, the general consensus in all these Tundra Brake Upgrade threads is that as long as you send back a Toyota caliper in the box and don't bring attention to the difference, nobody will hassle you.

Installation
Though info about parts for the 199mm upgrade is a little scattered, the install process is well-documented as it is basically the same as the 231mm upgrade EXCEPT you will not need to grind the dust shields or wheels.

Since the purpose of this thread is mainly to provide info about the 199mm upgrade OEM part numbers and remanufactured caliper alternative part numbers, you'll want to refer to one of these other excellent resources for info about installing your new parts and bleeding the brakes:
- Timmy the Toolman brake upgrade video
- Yotatech step-by-step writeup

Very helpful and informative post! I also went with the Cardone Ultra Premium calipers that you mention, and am pretty happy with them. As for the core charge, I had no trouble getting credit from Rockauto even though I returned 4Runner calipers instead of the Tundras, but I think others weren't so lucky, so it's a hit or miss.

Great post and thanks. I did this upgrade about 7 months ago and I went with the Napa calipers and wish I hadn't... They're junk. That said... For me the 199mm TBU was the way to go, I have zero brake fade or wobble and have no issue with a soft brake pedal. For the folks I've seen posting that they going from the 231mm back to stock I'd say... This is a much better option.

Getting close to a year on and I figured I'd check in. I've driven over I-70 multiple times, went Colorado to Mexico and back, and have experienced nothing less than flawless braking with zero wobble or fade.

Quite happy with how it turned out, and can recommend the 199mm upgrade.

Thinking of doing this on my 2K sports ed this Summer. Anything you would like to add/advise or recommend different parts??? Issues you personally ran into?

Which on-line site has the best prices these days?

Thanks for putting this list together! I'm going with the 199 since people seem to have less issues with them.

Very interesting information regarding the Shim kit. I've got 199mm front Tundra brakes on my 2000 and have been running them for about 1.5yrs now.

They're excellent but squeal like crazy. I ordered the shim kit and wondering if it'll help.

Currently running no shims

Talking about squeals and shims, I'm thinking about Wagner ThermoQuiet pads. I've used this on my Nissan truck and heard good things about them. They also don't require shims or much grease either.

My order should be arriving today. If you want all oem parts, as I do, Norwalk Toyota seems the way to go. I used to shop camelback Toyota, but the prices seemed to have gotten more expensive over time Switched to Norwalk and shaved $60 off, found out about them on Tacoma world. Were a little late to shipping my order so they expedited it to me.

Also, there's a 1 percent coupon somewhere on IH8MUD

thanks! I'll check it out! Yeah had a bad experience with Camelback. They did a crappy job packing up the parts and they were all scraped up.

Oof, no fun. This is my first big shipment from them so I'll update later tonight or tomorrow if I experience the same.

My opinion. I have these brakes. On two 4Runners. They can warp as bad as the stock brakes. I would make sure your rear brakes are properly adjusted before doing this mod. I can't even confirm that stopping distance is reduced with this mod. Stock brakes with good pads and rotors will feel amazing too.

I'm pretty happy with all the parts I used. You could try slotted rotors if you're concerned about cooling, but unless you tow heavy loads regularly I think that's overkill.

My advice from the install:
- definitely have a breaker bar handy for the caliper bolts, I didn't and it was a huge pain
- once I got it all done, bled my brakes, and bedded them in a bit, I was able to take it in to my local dealer and they did a brake check/inspection for free. I don't do any automotive work beyond minor repairs to my rig every so often, so it was nice peace of mind to get professional confirmation that I did a proper job of the brake bleed and install.

I wanted to do the 231 but heard all about the ABS(more than 199), spongy pedal(hopefully its just bleeding and nothing to do w/the M.Cyl.), and spare won't fit in case of flat issues. I do have 17" wheels so the clearance is not an issue with the 231.

I'm going with Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic pad so hopefully that will work better than OEM. I have this on my truck and they work well.

Thanks for the adj. the rear brake tip, yep read about that too. I did have them replaced a few years ago when my gear oil leaked so they shouldn't be frozen.

Got a breaker bar, it's been used a lot! Specially with the Tundra Bilstein/Tall springs upgrade.

Pass on the drill/slotted rotors, heard some issues with them too. I'll stick to OEM rotors.

Ordered the parts!
Thanks all!
