No start or click. No power to starter relay!???

As described no start turn or click when I turn the key over. Tested the battery which is good, cleaned connections, and tested the big wire going to the starter with the meter and its getting power. tested the relay when the key was turned all the way and there was no power getting to it. Any ideas, iv been researching/trial and error for two days now.

Well, got it to work. We tested the relay with some wire and the battery so we knew that was fine, then tested the starter the same way and that worked. So we tried looking under the dash and started unplugging and plugging things in and out and eventually it worked. Not exactly happy that we didnt find the problem but glad its fixed...for now

Similar Problem

This has happened twice, now, so I don't want to ignore it: when I turn the key to the starter, everything goes out - it's like I disconnected the battery. I can jiggle the ground, and everything eventually comes back on.

I know the battery is good. The connectors at the terminals were corroded, so I change them to after-market; but they seem to be connected ok. I didn't want to remove the entire ground wire, as it seems to be wrapped in the harness; so I cut it, peeled the insulation back, and attached it to the connector. It appears to be a good connection, but, as I said, I can jiggle it, and the power comes back on.

If the cable is my problem, how hard is it to replace the ground cable?

Did you ever figure out the issue. I’m having a similar problem. Gen 3 99. Was having intermittent issues starting. If I turned key no start no click. If I continued to hold the key in start position for several seconds would eventually start. Then that would no longer work and no start no click. Had the battery tested and they said it was OK. Did some troubleshooting and tested the starter relay, seemed to be working. Replaced the starter, still no start no click no dash lights, accessories (wipers turn signals radio) won’t power on when the key is turned and can’t move the AT shift lever. Can move the shift lever when I push the release button. Suddenly started and everything worked. Turned it on and off 3 or 4 times no problems. Took it for a test drive turned it off and started back up. Left it alone for an hour and no start no power again. Figured it may be an intermittent ignition switch so replaced it. No luck. I’m out of ideas except for neutral safety switch but would that cause no dash lights and no accessory power? Anyone have any ideas. I’d appreciate any help

What did you replace the ignition switch with? As I had the issue with the starter just like that. I replace the ignition connector and was good to go.

Did you have dash lights issues before the ignition contacts changed. If not, I really suspect the replacement ignition contacts you put in is defective.

Check the AM1 40A cartridge fuse under the hood.

Sometimes this fuse will blow, but the blown link will sometimes make contact. Easy/cheap fix.
