Bilstein 5160's backordered?

Back in November I ordered 6112/5160 from Wheelers. I keep getting told they are backordered, has anyone received any since ~December?

I was all stoked for finally taking the plunge, but it's been 3 months...

I heard from a reputable source that Bilstein put almost it's whole offroad division on hold to meet production demands of the Bilstein OEM equipped vehicles (lots of the euros etc). I am sure COVID playing some part in wreaking havoc on their supply and production supply chain.

I am sure that doesn't help you get your shocks any sooner ;) Hopefully you get them sooner than later!

I havent even seen any 5100s for sale anywhere. Rockauto doesnt even show the 5100s anymore. So does seem like Bilstein might be limiting production of the adjustable stuff.

Between COVID issues with shipping (primarily air freight, which I'm sure Bilstein is using) and staffing, I wouldn't be surprised if they have quite the backlog at the moment. I had to dig deep to find a place that had the 4th gen 5160's in stock at the beginning of last year and ended up doubling-back to Wheelers-Offroad and still had to wait nearly two-months.

Get used to it! Not going away anytime soon.

I've been in purchasing for over 15 years and this is the worst I've ever seen. You have a lot of factors contributing to our current situation. I hate blaming things on Covid, but this one is a direct affect of Covid. It's simple supply and demand for most manufactures right. Their demand went, and so did the supply. Now that places are start to ramp back the supply isn't there.

To make matters worse. Most of these places are ordering parts overseas, and there's currently a massive container shortage.

Pretty common misconception actually. When most people think about the cost of something they only think about it at face value...product cost. They don't take shipping and tariffs in account. When you start looking at product cost, freight, tariffs, brokerage fees, and finally transportation from the port to your facility. Not to mention the cost of your warehouse staff for unloading, receiving, and stocking all the material. The cost is pretty close to US manufactured items.

The bigger problem with your claim is that main manufacturing companies in the US are now buying their steel products from China since the US market is at it's highest since 2008. With no end to price increases in the near future you'll start seeing more and more coming from overseas.

I dont understand how you can say since 2008....its been a hell of a lot longer than that(ya better go back to the clinton era. When you get somethin made for nill...you can still make a profie at the end.

Um...You're completely missing the point and straying into another topic. So I can see where the misunderstanding is coming from now.

Front 5100s are the only Bilstein shocks that we seem to be able to get in right now.

We are still waiting on stocking orders for rear 5100s from December of last year.

4th gen rear 5100s that we ordered in December have late May ETAs now.
