Center console armrest repair?

Curious what others have done and what's available?

If something is on the market I'm curious. Also have a friend with many 'interesting' tools who might be able to fabricate something (to give you an idea he created a custom fill plate to fit an aftermarket stereo into the stock surround of our 100 series LX470) and bring to market if it doesn't.

Our lid hinge is broken as is one of the articulating supports...

Not sure what is available but I'd go to the "pick a part" type junk yard, I love pulling my own stuff and I love original equipment look! Luck and enjoy the Runner.

I've got a couple. New OEM and original OEM. New OEM isn't leather it's a softex material. The new OEM piece from Toyota is around $50. If you want one of mine LMK.

What if there was a $10-15 piece that could be made to fix the ones that break.like this? That's the route I'm thinking...

Do you really think that's possible? Somebody is going to spend a few hours at least fabricating something. Don't know how that fabricator would make any money doing a job like that for $10-15. Most people either buy a Toyota one, get a used one, or buy a cheapy Ebay one.

I repaired my sister inlaws 97 by epoxying a piece of fiber glass repair fabric and used that for a hinge. then colored the white fabric with black marker. Also if you take the plastic off the arm rest you may find that is broken I used a soldiering iron to do a process called stitching to melt the plastic back together look for you tube video of a guy fixing plastic motor cycle parts.

Yes, absolutely possible. This kind of thing is what he likes to do (and big jobs).

We talked today (at breakfast) he's interested.

One of his most successful (quantity wise) items is a replacement gas cap lanyard for Subarus...

Well that's a good friend to have indeed. Interested to see what he comes up with. Keep us posted.

Comparing your center console lid to the 2 spares I have. I'm thrown off on why the coin tray clip is screwed into the lid? Where the newer ones are screwed/mounted into the plastic coin tray..I would think that just the hinge can be changed out or swap the whole lid all together. I've got these 2 just collecting dust so if you want I can sell/ship you the whole thing or just sell/ship the hinge and the hardware. I'd rather they go to someone that will use them/parts. Good luck with your finds!

Wanted to share my success with the group in hopes to help others:

The bottom plastic was broken and leather deteriorated, I fiberglassed over the bottom, then removed the top fabric to expose the padding. Mine was a little screwed up so I put some foam (a sponge) in the void and did a carbon fiber overlay.

To do the carbon, I cut it to about the size or the original fabric (I did 2 layers and to keep cost down, did fiberglass on the bottom layer).
To apply, I wet laid both layers together (carbon down first) on a piece of glass (mirror works) so they were perfectly flat. Then I set the armrest on top of it and begun wrapping it like I would fabric. I thought about vacuum bagging it but was worried it wouldn’t hold the shape I wanted so I actually used staples to temporarily hold it in place during cure.
