'98 Limited, replace seat with manual seat and wire for power?

I have a '98 Limited and the 2 front seats leather are absolutely shot. I think my best option is going to be to find 2 front seats from a junkyard, either cloth or leather, don't really care.

I've found a local junkyard with nice looking cloth seats that are manual. Can I buy those manual seats and simply bolt in my current power seat motor fairly easily? My motors work fine, just the leather is ripped beyond repair.

How much do they want for the seats? I'm pretty sure, by looking at some parts breakdowns, that what your asking cannot be done without some major modification. Would be easier to take the cloth off the frames and transfer them I think. At that point I would just go on eBay and get a leather or vinyl reupholster kit. That's why I ask how much the seats are. If they are more than $200 then the new covers would be a better solution.

The seat is $50. I guess the major modifications underneath the seat would be the wiring. I assume there's also some physical alterations that differ between manual and electric seats with the tracks, etc.

Here's a Link to the cloth sport seat track. If you then goto to "VZN185L-GKPGKA" up top and change the characteristic to "LULI" (limited) I think you'll see some major mechanical differences. Wiring would be easier to adapt if that were the only difference.

I swapped my leather seats out with sr5 cloth seats front/rear and ran them for 3 years without plugging them in..I would assume the airbags would still go off even with them unplugged? Only thing I think it controls is the electronic lumbar support/seat belt notification. You could always just swap the plugs from either seat I would assume? I finally found a decent set of leather seats last weekend and swapped back to leather. Personally the manual seats weren't terrible for the time I had them. They were definitely a upgrade from what I bought it with. eBay has the leather replacement pieces for $90 for vinyl or $110 for Leather (bottoms). Depends on the shape your foam is in.

You can make a hybrid setup by swapping the manual cloth seat cushions onto your power seat frame, and then swap the cloth seat backs/frame as one onto the power seat cushion. I currently have 96-98 cloth seats in my 2000 Limited, the power lumbar in the driver backrest is no longer there (manual lever now) and I may not have something else plugged in on the passenger side but the powered slide and tilt work as normal.

why bother with electric, you probably will set it and forget it. I am sorta in the same boat, most leather seats I find in the junkyard are bad.

I would recommend (it’s what I did) finding a passenger seat bottom foam in good shape from the salvage yard to replace your trashed drivers side. Then order the replacement Vinyl/leather seat bottom cover from EBay sellers. That way you retain the leather, and your power seats, no problems.

I did this on an old Ford Explorer. I prefer manual adjust seats. They last forever. Electric seats will fail.
