Parts serial numbers...

I'm trying to assess whether my truck has had its bumper replaced. Any way to tell?

It's got this sticker on it.

Would there be a serial or Vin ID on it somewhere?

Yes, it’s aftermarket. Your bumper would not have been made in Taiwan if OEM

That's what I suspected. The yahoos replaced and painted the bumper but didn't bother with the plastic cap on top of it.

Duplicator makes a nice match for OEM paint colors in a rattle can. My millennium silver fat lip was gross from paint chips and road debris. An afternoon of sanding, primer, paint, and clear and it’s good enough to pass the average observer test. It’s held up for almost 3 years now, and I forget I painted it myself because it’s close enough of a match

On the good side...previous owner said it was a slow parking lot accident. Everything behind the bumper is straight and undamaged. So other than that plastic piece it all checks out.

The plastic piece is only $134.

Even the metallics match good? I might try to fix this. It bugs me

Not my post, but this is where I got the inspiration. Although you only need to paint the top filler plastic, id recommends removing the entire bumper, sanding, primering, painting, and clearing the entire thing.

There was a VIN on the metal part. There is a big flat tab sticking backwards off the top of the metal part and the VIN was on there. That said, if the rig saw much salt, that OEM metal piece was probably rusted out five or six years ago.

See the tab?

Here is the label on mine, with the tab sticking out from under the cover. You can't read the VIN anymore, but you can see the little 'TOYOTA' s all over it.

It's rusted out, and both are on the way to the scrapper.
