There was a VIN on the metal part. There is a big flat tab sticking backwards off the top of the metal part and the VIN was on there. That said, if the rig saw much salt, that OEM metal piece was probably rusted out five or six years ago.

Here is the label on mine, with the tab sticking out from under the cover. You can't read the VIN anymore, but you can see the little 'TOYOTA' s all over it.
It's rusted out, and both are on the way to the scrapper.
