2002 Sport Edition Build

I've started going down the slippery slope of a build on my 4Runner. I've messed around with a lot of cars over the years, but this is my first truck build. Goals are to have a great camping, over landing, and off road capable vehicle! I'll start with some background on the truck.

I've been looking casually for a 4Runner for the last year or so and started getting really serious this summer. I found a few to check out, and then before I made any moves towards on I checked facebook last minute, and SCORE! Here was THE exact runner I was looking for! A 2002 Black Sport Edition! Originally the guy wanted $5000 for it with 208k miles and it had a spare tire on it with 3 original wheels. The interior was disgusting and the exterior was scratched up, but not many dents. I detail my own cars and clean them religiously so a mess didn't scare me! Went to test drive, and it drove great. It had brake light, VSC and ABS lights on but that was it. It didn't leak fluids and the 4x4 worked good. It needed a battery and the guy made the mistake of telling me he had $100 into it (it was impounded at a tow yard and forfeited over for lack of payment). It was a 19 year old kid selling it for his grandpa. I offered him $1,600 because it needed some things instantly, and he agreed! I instantly got home and ordered some new wheels and tires! This is where the build begins...

Suspension:
Front: ~3" Lift
Bilstein 5100 Front Shocks
Toytec 3" Springs
Toytec 1" Front Diff Drop Kit

Rear: ~3" Lift
ProComp Rear Nitrogen Shocks
OME 890 3" Springs

Wheels and Tires:
Tires: 285/70R17 ProComp A/T
Wheels: ProComp Series 40 Vertigo 17"x9" -6 Offset 4.75" BS

Brakes:
Wheeler's Off Road Stainless Steel 4" Extended Rear Brake Lines

Exterior:
Stubby Antenna Mod

The day I got it:

Wheels, Tires Mounted and Running Boards Removed

Trimming the front bumper and flares was necessary to squeeze these big guys in there with a stock suspension. I removed the running boards because that was the next problem. Now the problem is the pinch welds. Lift on order...

Great looking rig! My only recommendation is to thoroughly inspect the frame. If it spent its life in the Minnesota area, good chance there's some rust issues. Better to tackle that first before you throw too much money into the mods.

Thanks man! Yea being in MN the frame was the first thing I checked before anything else. It is a Denver truck so it doesn't have the MN rust like all the others around me. It's not perfect but it's definitely a solid frame. I will for sure be doing a undercoating before winter too, so I can save this frame and make it last.

Here's frame pics:

Lift is in! Not too many pics yet. Had to cut out one of the rear shocks but it wasn't too bad. Getting an alignment today, so excited to get on some trails!

Colorado Trip

I went out to Colorado this past week with the Runner and it performed perfect! I ran into a problem the last day with it not wanting to shift out of 4x4... I went to the local Toyota dealership, paid $100 and replaced the indicator switch on the transfer case actuator, which fixed all of my issues. P/N: 84222-12010 it was cheaper than replacing the entire TC lol

Some highlight pics from the trip:

Solid rig. Wheels choice is perfect.

Get the frame coated with Fluid Film or something similar before winter rolls in!
