5th gen rear shocks

Hi all - I recently stole some rear coils and shocks from a 2019 4runner that had 500 miles when removed. The lady sold me the coils for $20 and threw in the shocks for free

Sorry if this has been discussed but couldnt find the answer - will the shocks work on my 3rd gen? I read somewhere about full flex the 5th gen springs will be a little loose. Im not a rockcrawler by any means but I do occasionally get off the beaten path on some rough roads. Just wondering if the 5th gen shocks are longer, which may allow even more play in the springs?

Thanks

Yes, 5th gen shocks are much longer and will make the (5th gen) springs even looser at full droop. I believe they will also bottom out before your axle hits the bump stops.

They rear shocks require an extended bump stop, which by default means if you aren’t running a 3”+ lift you’ll be riding the bump stops often. If you run a 1.5” Daystar with them that combo would work great. The extended bump stops aren’t cheap though unless you make your own so it becomes other things that nickel and dime you when you think you’re getting a cheap setup off low mileage 5th gen takeoffs.

Chill bro - just refreshing my 256k mile stock rear springs.....5th gen springs are good for that, or so I've heard!

They will work. I have a set of 5th gen rear springs plus 1.5” spacers plus the shocks. For the $30 I spent, rides amazing and handles weight very very well as it doesn’t sag much.
Not sure why the other poster is so negative about them.

I mentioned you need spacers and bump stop spacers to run them which is not negative, just pointing out the fact that there’s extra cost involved. Not negative just informative. Reading comprehension people!
