Third row seats

Hello all

Recently I’ve read an old article about the mighty third gen 4runner. In the article it mentions the third row seats as an option. Just wondering if anyone here have one?

You can definitely buy it with that option but I was wondering if you can buy it from Toyota and install it yourself?

Hey guys

That boston craiglist ad is not an original 3rd Row seat from Toyota.

The third row seat was never for the US market. It was installed in 4Runners known as Hilux SW4 for South America. Not even the Hilux Surfs, that were for the japanese market, had them

Search for Hilux SW4, same year as 3rd gens, and you'll see pictures of it. I think Toyota installed it in markets like south America, as there are lots of families that have more than 2 kids! like 7 on avarage!

Here is a link, like craigslist, in Brazil... Toyota SW4 1997 a 2002 no Mercado Livre Brasil

You may find some SW4s that have them like this one - https://carro.mercadolivre.com.br/ML...-7-lugares-_JM
They also have the 3L diesels!!!!

Also here is the diagram of what the components look like. Каталог запчастей TOYOTA и LEXUS

Hope this helps

^^That is my recollection as well. When I bought my '99 here in the States, I asked about a third-row, and they said there was no such thing. I think they said there was no way to get it safety approved in the US. My Brazilian '97 SW4 has one. When I got the '99, I checked, and it did not have the same anchor points that my SW4 has, or any way to attach them. Otherwise I would have brought a seat back from Brazil.

Is your SW4 diesel? Do know what variant it is if it is the 3L? Do you still have it? How much are parts in Brazil for these cars? Say a new turbo charger part number is 1720167010.

Can you check for me or let me know some links for parts like Craigslist here in the States?
Thanks

No, it's gas. My ex- also has an '00 Hilux pickup that is the 3.0 Turbo 1kz made in Argentina. Parts are not cheap and we usually get them from a dealer. It doesn't need much--light use. But for fun, I ran that p/n through the local equivalent of eBay and I got this as a typical listing:

https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/...motor-1-kz-_JM

That's for the 1kz used in the Prado Land Cruiser and HiLux that were sold down there. That's really the only site I know for auto parts. Might do better in Argentina where they were made. I didn't see any used listings.

The $R is sitting around 4, so that is US$400. That includes local shipping, not to US. That's new, and I gather imported by the seller from Argentina.

PS. That motor is a real pig. Top speed is about 120kph and you have to shift constantly because the red line is so low. Even with the turbo, acceleration stinks. I hate to drive that thing. Fortunately, my divorce gave my ex- custody of the SW4--it's still in my name--but I get visitation so I drive it when I'm there.
