2019 Tacoma wheels on 2000 4Runner?

I found a like new set of 2019 16 inch Tacoma wheels on CL and want to know if they'll fit my 2000 Runner?

"fit" is debatable... there are a few variables.

All Toyota 6-lug wheels will mount to all 6-lug hubs. so in that respect they will "fit".

But that's only one part of the equation, there's also Offset (how far to the inside or the outside of the barrel the center of the wheel sits). This can mean a wheel sits WAY outside of the fenders, which is a look some like and others find vomit-inducing. Or it can mean the wheels sit WAY inboard and have rubbing issues.

4Runners have a 15mm offset (across the board I think, all years). No idea how big of positive number you can go with before rubbing occurs. Tacoma's range from 5mm (TRD) to 40mm. You can make a 40mm work with spacers, but then you get back into that cosmetic things with the wheels sticking out past the fenders/body, which is a love or hate look.

40mm will have the wheel center 1 inch closer to the outside (meaning the center of the tread is 1 inch inboard of a 15mm offset/stock wheel). Is that enough to cause rubbing on the inside? I don't know... Too much positive offset can also cause at-speed handling issues.

Personally, I'm not willing to risk much more than a 5mm deviation (10~20mm). Others will happily slap on a 1.5" spacer and never think twice about it. This is the website I've found with the best overall info (photos for all, offsets for most): Toyota Wheels Rims Wheel Rim Stock OEM Replacement

The original is a 16 x 7 and the new one is suggesting a 16x8?
The newbie is confused as to how the 7" current rim will work with
a replacement 8" rim? Unless I am missing the offset issue?
Sorry, the pictures will not copy and paste to this thread.

Thanks for the link... judging by the photos on CL and what looks like the exact wheel on the link the offset of the Tacoma wheel is 25mm. I wonder if they would fit without caliper rubbing or not.

You pasted the same info twice, FWIW

You're not alone. I'm Barely scratching the surface of the issue myself. I just know that there's a whole lot more to it than "yup, all 6-lug Toyota OEM's fit".

I don't really think a Rim width difference of an inch will mean much (don't know) so long as you stick with similar Tire sizes. The issue there is that a wider rim tends to need a wider tire, combine that with more positive offset and you're really running into clearance issue territory.

But this is 100% theoretical on my part. I have not tried to fit any other wheels, on any vehicle, ever. Well, I swapped Porsche wheels for Porsche wheels once (2 models offered for the year car I had, went from one to the other)... I'm too cheap and firmly rooted in Function over Form territory. I'm only looking into swapping things on this 4runner because it's cheaper to buy take-offs than buy/install/balance new tires.

I added a set of Tacoma TRD wheels / tires to my son's 97 4Runner.... they fit well and look pretty awesome in my opinion. No rubbing while driving on the road (no off-roading yet), but I am not sure if it has stock / original suspension. We bought the 4Runner recently and it needed tires, so I went that route instead of just buying tires for the ugly original wheels.

Gonna need more info than that. What springs, which Bilstein, etc... If you want a general answer, then go 265/70/16

I found a set of wheels and tires from a 2007 4Runner but the offset is 30mm instead of 15mm like the stock wheels on it. I don't understand anything about offset. Does going from 15mm to 30mm make the stance wider or narrower?

Narrower. You're moving the mounting surface 15mm towards the outside away from the center of the wheel.

A higher positive offset will make the stance narrower. It means the mounting surface of the wheel is pulled out toward the curb-facing side, which pushes the wheel and tire inward.

Thanks... that's too bad... if anything I'd want to go wider... the wheels were mint too... oh well the search continues
