Manual door lock failure?

So my 02 4Runner sport took a dump on my heart today and suddenly stopped unlocking when using a key on both doors and the hatch. It has never given me a problem until today. From what I’ve found it can only be unlocked with the OEM key fob, or manually pulling up the lock “stick” on the door. If I lock the doors from inside, the doors will lock, but the button won’t unlock the doors again after being locked. The key does also not unlock the doors from the outside, nothing will even budge at all, in any direction, with the master key, valet key, and spare key. After hours of using a coat hanger and prying the door open to hit the unlock button (it did nothing), I had to break one of the small vent windows on the back door to get in (I have no roadside assistance, and a lock smith couldn’t do anything, and the key fob was locked in the truck too). Is there a security system problem with this? Is there a mechanism that needs to be replaced? Anyone else have this problem? I also noticed someone has taken my grill off recently, and broke all of clips that hold it in place, and they just jammed the grill back in place. Could a fuse be missing that could cause the locks to do this?

Probably one of the plastic fittings on the linkages inside the door. Had a problem seconds after somebody was complimenting me on how clean/straight it is for over 350k miles. Went to open and the door handle didn't work. A plastic connector inside the door had broke. Reattached and secured with a tyrap, and good to go, took 10 minutes.

It sounds more like an electrical issue than a manual one, seeing as how none of the doors work, not even a little 'click'. There are a number of door lock threads going around lately, some having to do with lock actuators, some having to do with the ECM.

You said that *someone* removed your grill?
Like a thief trying to break into the engine compartment? Or was it the OP before you bought it? I know that the grill clips break easily and most people (myself included) just zip tie it back on.

I'm not looking at my fusebox now to see if there's a door lock specific fuse, but if you had someone tampering in your engine bay, you might start experiencing other issues as well.

I have had this issue. Front driver and passenger doors occasionally still give me problems, but not as bad as the rear hatch/rear window control with key.

I don't know what I did, but the problem resolved itself after a week or so, at least in the cabin doors....possibly indicating a loose part had temporarily jammed the lock mechanism.

Rear hatch I still have to wiggle to get it to open/close the window, some days are worse than others

3) your fob unlocks and locks the doors just fine.

Assuming I understand correctly, I have a couple questions:

Has your truck been re-keyd, or in an accident, at any point?

Is it JUST the driver side that doesn’t work, or have you tried all 5 doors, with the same result; no motion at all?

I wouldn’t say it’s the actuators, seeing as how they work with the fob.

I would think that the switch is bad, seeing as how you can lock, but not unlock, from inside the cab.

Also, if your key doesn’t work on ANY of the doors, then the truck was re-keyed at some point, and the key you have isn’t cut for the truck, but just for the ignition switch.

If it’s just the driver door, then there might be a clip that’s broken.
