Braintrust,
I recently installed an ECGS front 3rd member with ARB air locker. Install went mostly smooth...nothing really to complain about. I did take the actuator off to inspect and resealed it and didn't see anything wrong with it...tbh that wasn't part of the install plan...just wasn't paying attention with what I was unbolting. Anyway, about 1 1/2 later I developed an oil leak and found a hairline crack in the front diff actuator. This seems really odd...I didn't drop the axle nor hit the actuator nor anything for that matter with hammer. I thought maybe I over torqued the bolts but the crack isn't around the bolts so I am stumped. ECGS hadn't seen this but they are sending me a free actuator which is pretty generous since I doubt this has anything to do with the new 3rd member/locker and more likely some dumb thing I did that I can't figure out. But my question for the group is could engaging the front locker (only did this a few times to check for function) cause extra pressure to do this? Any ideas? What dumb thing did I do??? That is aside from using the black fipg instead of the red...will correct this with the replacement. Hopefully, I can pull and replace without having to pull the front diff out.
