High pitched beep AND more

01, brake,ABS,VSC,Trac lights are on, NO check engine light, No codes..checked just in case. High pitched beeping noise also. It did it a few weeks ago once, then was fine. No work has been done to vehicle recently. Any suggestions what to look at first? Thanks

Sounds like the ABS system warning alarm possibly. There are numerous things that can trigger this alarm and ABS codes.

Has the brake pedal felt normal? How are you attempting to pull the code? It's possible that your scan tool isn't able to pull the ABS system codes...I am not sure if that's accessible via standard OBDII or not. Your first order of business is finding what codes are being stored. There must be some if the lights/buzzer is on.

Here's the section from the factory service manual about ABS fault codes. 96-02 Toyota 4Runner Factory Service Repair Manual

It's possible, but that causes the brake pedal to feel hard as a rock, since it's not getting any power assist. He's not reporting anything like that.

Years ago I had a rear shock come loose (wore through is more like it) on the passenger side of my 2001. It eventually popped out, and the 1/4"-diameter end of what remained of the stud nailed the ABS wire dead-center. I almost couldn't believe it when I saw it. I think it actually took a day or two for it to get through the insulation and cause brake and ABS lights to come on. Until that happened, it just felt a little more springy, according to my wife who was the DD. I don't remember if there were any accompanying beeps.

A month or two ago, someone else on the forum described almost the exact same failure, but I don't recall all their symptoms. But maybe something related to the ABS cabling?

I
I have the factory service manual. You are correct, I am using a OBDII code reader, so maybe that’s why I get no code. Pedal feels normal, fluid is at the proper level, never an issue with any type of fluid leaks. I started it again to move it into the garage and the lights and beeping went off..very hard to diagnose an intermittent problem.

According to the manufacturer of my scan tool, it will read ABS codes.. maybe I didn’t hit the correct button...will wait and see if it does it again and try to read the ABS codes.

I came across these instructions for pulling ABS codes, but haven't tried them myself:

Unable to Diagnose ABS light
