5FZ-FE Throttle body “vacuum lines” making me fail CA smog
So I have now failed CA smog 3 times all due to “visual inspection” items and two different shops are both convinced that the two brass lines on top of the throttle body need to be connected to something and they will not take my word for it. I think they go to the IAC in a different configuration of this engine but not mine or any of the other 5FZ automatics ive ever seen. I will be going to a different shop next time to avoid the headache but in the event that I get flak again, how in the hell will I convince the technician that these do not go to anything? Is there a diagram or anything?
Really not interested in paying more money and waiting around just to continue to be held hostage by the State of CA

show that to them, but honestly, why not go to a Toyota dealership instead ?

Beat me to it! Is your sticker missing? Any smog tech who actually knows their job would look at this sticker.

Where in California are you located?
I’m in Los Angeles, my ‘02 had that exact setup (of course) and my local smog guy, who has failed MANY of my cars for little stuff, gave me no headaches about that.
You do have the option of seeing the CA smog referee, who can intervene when you’re dealing with someone who is incorrectly failing your car.

I'm pretty baffled that TWO shops would point out the same incorrect issue. The necessary info is literally right in front of them - and its not like those cap look like some parts store hack. They are nice OEM looking caps.

Maybe they got confused looking up info for a 5FZ instead of a 5VZ?

For the record, those connections were for an EGR, which was not used on the OBDII 5VZ-FE. You can find that on a pre-1996 T-100 with the 5VZ-FE, for instance.

Post a pic of your engine bay, and if you're in the SFV I can recommend smog shops I have used in the past without issue
