Front window rattle - from new?

96 3rd Gen

If my front windows are partly wound down and I close the door normally, I get a horrible slapping sound from the window glass rattling inside the rubber weatherstrip runs.

I've got the door apart and everything inside is fine, the regulator looks like new, the channels which hold the weatherstrip inside the door are perfect, the bolts holding the regulator rail to the window are tight. I'm pretty certain the weatherstrip is the culprit - I can see the gap for the glass is far wider than on the rear doors (which sound great when they close, and the windows slide up and down like silk).

Before I shell out for new rubber, I just wanted to be sure that they don't rattle from new - does anyone have a 3rd Gen whose front windows don't rattle?

Thanks

EO

I've read about this before. There's a post here where someone fixed it by pulling out that rubber track, adding something next to it, then putting it back into the door frame.

This effectively narrows that gap in the rubber track and reduces vibrations when open.

PS my 2000 doesn't rattle, but my 94 and 95 2nd gens did with the front windows open.

I just went out to the parking lot to check.

No rattle. The glass for sure has some movement to it but there is NO audible rattle. Oddly, my passenger side has more wobble than the drivers. This is with the window down about 3 inches.

The glass is quite unsupported in this position. Only the rear has much support. The rear doors are supported front and back in any position.

Hope this helps.

Yes indeed . The fix works flawlessly, I can drive with partially lowered windows and not hear any rattles.

I found specialists in tempered scratched glass repair. They came and in some hours the windows' glasses were like new.
I'm just looking for a service that can remove a scratch from the door glass. I wonder if this company has valid promo codes?
