Spindle gusset

Who has installed the Total Chaos spindle gusset? I have two sets for two pairs of spindles I am working on and I have seen the gussets for years but never had them in my hands. I think they leave a lot to be desired.

I was talking to @eimkeith on instagram and asked him if he thought he could find time over the next year to design something that was better and he seemed like he maybe would be interested in doing it.

So question is would or could you guys (we) make it worth his while? Better may cost more though, would that matter?

If I didn't already have the total chaos ones I would. I've bought like 3 of his kits

Honestly they seem okay to me for the price, not that it would hurt to have better ones haha.

I agree for the cost it’s hard to complain to loudly, but it seems these days it’s way easier to produce something that would be better especially if it’s made by someone who is still in the 3rd gen 4Runner game daily developing new stuff.

Seems to me that the gussets solve the problem so i'm not sure whats the point of making something else.

What exactly would you be looking for in a revised version? The Total Chaos ones work fine. There is not a whole lot different design that you could do for a reinforcement.

Maybe something that actually fits the spindle? I know it works fine after installed and i know I can massage them easily enough to make them fit better. I’m going to be installing a set on a pair of my spindles here soon but the fit could be tighter, they could actually locate better if designed differently as well I think. Maybe not worth it in the long run but I don’t think any of you could say they again don’t leave atleast a little to be desired.

I don’t need a new design just think it could be done better.

Well, here’s an issue:

a redesign might improve the strut tower interference..?

Here’s how much I took out to be able to stuff the wheel and steer it:

I definitely need a different gusset design for my application, anyway.

Mine rubbed there even before the spindle gussets haha. I've installed two sets on 3rd gens now and while they didn't fit fantastic with like a minute and an angle grinder they fit totally fine. The only issue I have had is it makes getting the ubj bolt off a pain but idk how you could get around that redesigning it though since it's going to cause more clearance issues with the coil buckets if the gusset is made to give more clearance. Just my two cents

my situation might be a bit unusual - the 1" body lift allows me to stuff the wheel pretty high (hence the hacking I had to do on the TC gusset itself)

that said, I have some ideas to improve on that design.. (#uptravelmatters)

Holy snap. How can your front travel that high?

I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure mine gets nowhere near that high by the time it hits the bumps...

Remove the shock and bumps and you will get there... His truck is up on jack stands and he is custom designing a lot of parts.

Another vendor is working with me on shorter bumps for more uptravel - and I went with the FOX 2.5 coilover because of its compressed length so that I can actually use that uptravel.

And then the 1" BL gets me the overhead room I need.

It clears the fender, but I did have to make a small hole under the airbox. ;)
