Here I thought my plate rusted through. That's a new one. Can't say I seen a 3rd gen shock snap. Just driving on roads only.

bilstein.. the exact number.. I am going to have to look up when i got those when i have some time.

Now this one is extremely interesting. The shock is fully functional and you can see it just sheered off. Not cracked half rusty. Nothing. Crazy. No plate or bracket movement

So I just welded the brackets on for outboarding shocks. Tetanus1 which was thrown together for something to drive in 2015 with 215k as experimental plating just seeing how long things last in the rust belt. Now sits at 291k and my first vehicle plated when I couldn't even weld yet. I can now say that if you just weld plates on. You have 5 to 8 years. I am going to have to redo things to make this last longer.
Granted, I only going to 300k then I either sell this rig to South America only if the price is good. If not, I may make it a 3rd parts mobile.



Now, if you clean treat and paint metal this increases years.

I am actually quite surprised this frame lasted this long without major treatments.

This particular one isn't worth a frame swap.

This would have lasted longer if I coated the inside of the frame with heavily rust inhibitors. But I needed a control..

I wonder if you will even have to be in purgatory with all the oxide penance you endure....I can't imagine the level of patience you have to endure this stuff.

I wanted to learn how to weld. So I used 3rd gen 4 runners frames as my practice... if you can weld on rusty rotted steel. You can weld darn near anything.

Defective shock?

Interesting on the frame.

It could be. I figured the shock was frozen. Interestly. That shock is functioning normally. So no clue as the cause.
