This is the end result of both the passenger and drivers side. That paint was brushed on as well and not sprayed. I think it turned out decent compared to what I started with.

The pictures make it look like your putting Bondo right over the rust. Are you putting some type of converter on it?

I run the iridium plugs. They don't make 100K. I suspect its due to the fact our rigs fire the plugs both on the compression and exhaust strokes, so they get fired 2x what they should per mile.

Converters are worthless. The goal was to seal the holes. Once the holes were sealed it was all coated in fluid film. That was done a year ago without oxidation occurring anymore. I been keeping an eye on it to see how it holds up. Seal off the oxygen steel cant oxidize. yes the panels were extremely bad. Time will tell how long that lasts. Being I driving that one. I had to do it this way. ;)

How long do you expect the plugs to last 50k?

sure, but bondo can flake/chip off or just decide it doesnt want to adhear to rust anymore and then your back to square one. this isnt the right way to do it. its a temp fix at best. bondo sucks.

That's about where I change them, but I've gone out around 65K before but then got the misfire codes.
One of those deals where I bought the plugs and then didn't actually install them but in my mind I had.

I'm not sure on your part numbers. Maybe you have double platinum?

I've got double platinum in my 98 right now. NGK's.

90119- 01196 maybe should be 90919-01196?

K16TR11 is the standard copper core NGK BKR5EKB-11
PK16TR11 is the double platinum
NGK BKR5EIX-11 is single iridium w/nickel ground but not double ground
SK16HR11 is single iridium w/platinum ground but not double ground
IK16TT or IQ16TT Double iridium but not double ground
and then....
NGK FR5BHX Ruthenium HX

I'm not sure I've seen a double ground Iridium plug.

I dont use bondo. However, you guys are correct but keep in mind, this is Tetanus 1. You can see the shape of the panels. I mostly use API metal reinforced body puddy. This one is a work beater. This isn't my 5 speed nor my 2001 sport. It's really my experimental rig. I practice things on it. As it was the first to get replacement steel rockers. as this is how you improve.

I know a perminate fix is to replace the panels. This one was extremely bad when it fell into my possession. This is an example on how you can fill holes. I should have mentioned that. I did state I was driving it and continued to drive it through the entire process.

The body filler has fiberglass screen all through it so I doubt it will fall off or flake. I also put metal in were the bolts went and molded them in as this rot was very intensive. My inside of those panels are dry. So I got the holes sealed and that was the intention. :]

We really should be running the double ground electrodes in these engines. Those are the only plugs I use are the double ground style. I had 45k on my old plugs in the thread here. I believe they weren't anything fancy. I can get 100k out of platinum plugs in my other Toyotas but they are single ground plugs and I am sure that makes a difference.

In your pic are the K16TR11 standard copper cores.

Those are probably the best all around plug for these engines. I wouldn’t argue if a guy claimed they lasted longer than the platinums.

I’d think by 100k the electrode would be evaporated away. I’ve never attempted to run them that far though. By 50k the electrode is noticeably thinned out.

We shall see they about 45k on them and you can see the wear was getting there. Cylinder 4 developed a misfire. So I changed them.

Well everyone is going have to excuse me for being Grumpy. As I have all my 4 runner projects shut down. I have 3 parents with health issues (Wife's 2 ) living with me and my wife with her father dealing with Dementia and my mother in law home on hospice along with my own mom battling cancer as my mom {since oct, nov 2019} worked with me and my brother at our business. So my life has been changed drastically since last June when my mother in-law and father came to live with my wife and I.

I believe my tinkering on my rigs keeps me calm and centered. As I don't have the time to do so I am becoming a bear with a sore rear. So if I snip at someone please don't take it personally. Just tell me to quit being grumpy.

I honestly just think its all taking its toll on me. As for a while here I will not be tinkering as much until life becomes more simplified. As I tell my clients I not really complaining just doing more explaining.

Best of luck to you Brillo.
Life can be challenging enough at times but when taking care of parents it becomes a tough haul to keep all the pieces in place.
Been caring for my mom with dementia as well. It’s a tough situation for sure.
You have my prayers and best wishes.
Be strong and keep reaching deep inside for more patience as i’m sure you understand it’s such a tough disease.

Thanks for the thoughts. I guess for a while my build threads will be a maintenance thread for Tetanus 1 as its my Daily driver. I just am really going to miss my garage therapy. Rebuilding Toyota's keeps me calm as in my business I deal with people all day long. As its one of the only hobbies I kept before I was married. :-) I could also post previous rebuilds and repairs that I never put on here as well. So some of the folks that followed this build can see how I redid the 3rd gen gas tanks as an example. I really didn't think a lot of people even followed this thread much but I am finding out that its more then I thought it was.
