My cig lighter meter is anywhere from spot on to .3 low depending on what all accessories I have on. It’s a switch load so there will be some voltage drop across the contacts.

My scangauge reads system voltage off the obd plug

Yes I suspect a slight voltage drop. I can live with w range of 0 to .3 volts. That's acceptable for me. As its just an indicator of charging or not charging in this particular application.

Well Tetanus 1 needs inspected. So I went to pull the rear drums off. Passenger no problem. Drivers side drum was sticking. So I spun the adjuster and didnt the darn thing get stuck. Even though its not rusty I had to plasma cut the drum then use a chisel to back the thing off. The boot got burnt. If there wasn't a little bit of seepage I would have left it but I put a used one on from my parts rear axle.

Experimenting painting drums. Will it stay on maybe. The top coat is high temperature paint. Anyways you can see the 2 different castings on the drums. As my original was damaged. I figured I would show pictures of them. As I am not sure if folks knew there were at least 2 castings used for the drums. Most likely 2 different suppliers for Toyota.

I just picked up a set of TBU [199mm] for the 16 inch wheels at a local pull and pay I can no longer stand warped rotors. [ around $40.00 for the set] One was recently remfg. The other I will sand blast and rebuild myself.

Members say that if the rears are properly adjusted, the fronts won't work as hard and overheat the front rotors and warp them.
Maybe it's somewhat true. I too got tired of that vibrating pulsing brakes with the wimpy thin rotors.
Even with properly adjusted rear drums, do you think it's only a matter of time until they warp the front rotors with a stock brake set up?

I disagree with the properly adjusted theory as I used to manually adjust my rears every 5k miles for several years and always have the same results. In 3 months or so the front rotors would warp.

I would say it's a design flaw. All 3rd gens should have at least had the 199mm rotors with the tundra sequoia wider rotors on them . Well that's just my thought anyway.

Agree completely and have had same experience.
Replaced rotors & pads only 2-3K miles ago and already feeling the pulsation in front when applying brakes.
This is just under 7500 miles after installing new bearings/seals on rear axle and new drums/shoes as well as rebuilding bell cranks and properly adjusting parking brake.
Considering TBU but hesitating as I’ve heard others say might be problematic on 01-02 due to the more involved master cyl.

I believe there are 2 versions. You are after the calipers that use the 199mm wide rotors not the larger ones that require 17 inch rims unless you grind the caliper down.

This way they are basically the same size except accept a wider rotor. I have no plans to ever use the largest caliper.

In addition to the 02 SR5 Sport Edition, I have a 2000 SR5 Sport (Highlander Package) that has the TBU with the larger calipers (Power Stop KC232436 package) which was able to retain the original 16” 5 spoke alloys.
This Power Stop kit contains the larger Calipers and performs well.
I’m just a bit hesitant to go with the same kit on the 02 Sport Edition as the 01-02 master is a way different and more complicated animal than the earlier ones.

Ah. I have a 01 sport I never looked at what calipers are in it. I am suspecting mine has the standard calipers on it.

Good thought on as the 01 and 02 master cylinder is different. Are members having issues with the smaller calipers too??

I believe your 01 Sport will have the larger calipers as well since that was part of the Sport package.

I painted my drums about 3 years ago while doing all the rear control arm/ panhard bushings. I bead blasted them, tremclad red oxide primer, tremclad black paint thinned down both brushed on. Sprayed with VHT high temp clear meant for brake calipers, been holding up great.
