OEM or CVJ Red boot?
Going to service my cv joints since truck has 213k and developed a small leak after installing Sonoran 1.2 lift. Done a ton of research on here, so my plan is to keep my OEM cv axles and just inspect/reboot/grease. Just haven’t decided on the Best boot option yet. Has anyone had good success with the red Hi angle boots by CVJ? Can I still purchase a reboot kit from Toyota? Let’s hear what you guys have found to be the preferred cv axle setup for a 2.5-3” lift. I did install the diff drop that came with the lift kit. Also how often are you guys finding cv boot issues on your lifted rigs? Am I going to be replacing boots every year? My rig is a DDriver,so it doesn’t see too much 4wheeling, just when hunting and fooling around in the woods a few times a year.

I just got done rebooting axles that I put new Toyota OEM inner boots on after lifting it (lasted maybe 6 months). Stretching the boot isn't a good solution, the boots will eventually rip at the small end. I just put on the CVJ boots and I can tell you they'll stretch significantly more than the Toyota OEM boots will. I'm not sure how long the boots will last but I'm hopeful that'll last a long time.

I think CVJ recommends the reds for lifts over 3” and OEM for under 3”.

OEM only, if you have a lift over 3" you're prone to snapping those CV axles with that angle anyways.
Lower is better with large tires.

I’m just basing my answer to the original question on what CVJ says about their product. The red boots are a different material from OEM and handle increased rubbing from lift angles better. Doesn’t mean the axle will last longer, just the boot.

I'm in total agreement with CVJ. Their CV boots are a much better material when it comes to stretching. The OEM boots might hold up to 2" inches and under but they are the wrong solution after that. Stretching the boot doesn't work, and using a cut boot end with a snap ring is a nightmare to clean. The CVJ boot isn't going to sit in the factory spot but with a nice stainless steel worm gear clamp you can easily adjust the position and get it to hold on tight.

OEM boots will rip with a lift unless you stretch them. I blew through a pair on the front in less than 30 days after rebuilding. Now I'm running cv boots from ORS, and haven't hard an issue in over two years.

I actually stretched brand new OEM boots and they ripped in 6 months. Perhaps they'll work under a small amount of stretching but after that they'll rip.
The ORS and CVJ boot is the same I believe. The CVJ guy said to use the ORS website for the install which leads to me to believe its the same boot.

I have a 3" lift and the red boots have worked good for me. I'm running the red on the inner and OEM on the outer. I had terrible luck running anything else on the inner with the 3" lift.

Great info guys. I just put a new clamp on my OEM boot for now it’s tight again. I believe I’m going to purchase 1 New Napa Cv axle and swap it out one at a time until I get red inner boots and try and find Toyota oem outers. Hope they sell just outers.

I'm sure that you can get just the OEM outers. The real problem child here is the inners though. I wouldn't hesitate to go red inners and aftermarket outers. I was just looking at the link you posted for CVJ Axles and they describe this job as advanced. I would describe it as fairly easy but extremely messy!

Cvj VS OEM
Question: while the consensus seems to be the CVJ boots are better, what about the axle itself? I've picked one up with aftermarket axles, and I need to replace them, I'm trying to decide if I get the CVJ reman axles or a new OEM set. Opinions?
