I just got done adding up all of the invoices from the Toyota parts dept, the eBay invoice from aircabinman, a few from Napa and a few from a local commercial parts store in the industrial park where I did the work at.

So for the t-belt kit, coolant, hoses, new A/C compressor belt tensioner, V/C gaskets and associated pieces, a fresh tube of FIPG and some new plug wires, I'm in it for about $830.

Add that to the cost of the trans fluid exchange and odd parts, I'm right around $1K in August for knocking out the last of the maintenance list on the old 'runner

DO IT ALL, or you will be back in there redoing stuff.

That seems oddly high... For V.C gasket and new T belt job.

I was looking at 550ish max for all of that whenever I was pricing it out. Aircabinman is definitely the way to go, and check out partsouq.

I am not a fan of Toyota parts deal, slower than dead road kill in processing orders.

Throwing in the wires, and I'm guessing your doing spark plugs as well is where your "few Little items" start stacking up. What does that cost? 60ish bucks? And I'm guessing your doing new half moons which isn't required.

Obviously you can cut the half moons out of the price but if you need new plugs and wire sets then by all means

I just bought all of this and it looks like I'm at about $450-ish. Granted, it's all mixed in with a full suspension/bushing overhaul and a new radiator too so it's a little hard to tell without going through Every itemized line.

I checked my invoice from McGeorge toyota (online parts) and it cost me about $270 in parts for all the valve cover stuff including new half moons, spark plugs/wires, and pcv/pcv grommet. You can PM me if you want all the part numbers.

I think I paid around $500 for a T-Belt kit from Toyotoa, and a Denso radiator when I did mine a couple years ago.

The plugs are less than 1 year old, I didn't replace them. The old NGK wire set was showing white corrosion on the undersides, so I got a new set for about $47 and the new tubes for the coils were about $20. The price of the rad and oil cooler hoses plus the concentrate coolant definitely bumped up the overall cost, those were around$125 for all Toyota parts. I just cleaned and re-used the 1/2 moons, no reason not to. I had to get the cam plugs new, they were about $20

I had a bit of a hard time understanding how I ran up the costs so high when the aircabinman kit is pretty complete, but looking at the receipts I can how it happened. I have a cash wholesale account at the Toyota dealer parts counter, so their prices were good. I guess this stuff just adds up. There was no way I was going to cut any corners, I have no desire to go this deep into the engine again. Getting the old green coolant out was worth the effort and now I have plenty of left over red coolant. I probably should have gotten 1 gal of the concentrate and 1 gal of the pre-mix, I would have had much less left over.

T belt kit, had to buy a new lower sprocket gear, cam holder to get the cam bolts loose, new crank bolt, and seal puller for all three seals.

I feel your pain....prices stack up real fast when doing the job right the first is really what your aiming for

And in all retrospect, that job will end up lasting 90-100k miles? Which let's say you drive 20k miles a year, you won't have to do it again for 5 years.

So let that sink in for a minute....lol that 800 bucks is nothing when you stretch it out over that time span. Now you gotta cross your heart hope to die the motor itself is in good working order then it's a slam dunk from there!

If it makes you feel better the PO of my truck was a blowhole. I had to go complete suspension overhaul and new tires on my rig....I still haven't had a chance to do this job. It's the last big step I have to take. I'm already 3500 deep into mine lol without the timing belt and valve cover job. He never did anything right and that is the money it took to get it back right.

I got the Aisin kit from Rockauto for $175. It comes with water pump, gaskets, hydraulic tensioner, and Koyo tensioner and idler bearings. With shipping and coolant I'm in around $250.

When we bought our 5sp it came with a gates belt, napa water pump, a hydraulic tensioner, and one of the idler pulleys.

Bought the other tensioner, belts, hoses, and cam seals - maybe a total of $150.

Also paid about $170 for 3 large cans of A/C and a manifold/gauge set plus pump to to recharge the system after the timing belt job.

If I had bought the parts I would go with an Aisin kit. On the LX470 I just did that's what I ordered and was under $200 plus another $110 for the Aisin fan bracket. I didnt replace the fan bracket on the T4R as I wasn't thinking of it being a wear item- on the plus side the job is 10x easier than a UZJ100. The UZJ100 job was around $400 in parts but I used Red Toyota, which they seem to seriously admire.

You must have bought a lot of small parts not mentioned because I would probably charge about $1000 to do a T-belt and V/C gaskets at my shop. (parts, labor & tax)

Not too many small parts. PVC valve and grommet, intake gaskets and some vacuum hose to replace hardened/rotted hose and the can of red wrinkle paint for the VC's is what comes to mind. don't feel like itemizing everything, but it wasn't too many 'add on' parts. The biggest surprises were the A/C compressor belt tensioner assembly (around $40) and the plug wire set. I used a Beck Arnley V/C gasket set to save a few bucks, I hope that doesn't come back to bite on my backside.

As I was typing this, I was going through the receipts again and realized that I had a quote for parts at $125 that I never purchased, so I can take $125 out of the overall costs. That puts me at around $705, which seems better!

I had maybe $30 worth of cleaners and a cheap plastic tub for a parts washer tank, but those are things that I'll use on different projects so I don't account for them. They're more like "shop supplies"

If your shop can do this job for $1K and use Toyota parts, I'd say that sounds like a good deal for someone who can't/doesn't want to do it themselves !

Don’t forget to grab a new crank pulley bolt!

My drive belts had just been replaced so didn’t need those... couldn’t justify putting the 160k mile radiator back in though it was probably fine.
