Dual Camera System - Sanity Check Pls
Probably because I have nothing else better to do, I decided to set up a dual camera system on my Surf, mostly for offroad use.
I don't feel like running any more wires through the firewall, or through the tailgate to the cab, so both cameras will use a cheap 2.4Ghz wireless transmitter. Unfortunately, it's not coded, so only one transmitter can be on at a time.
I want to have two operating modes for this system:
(1) normal - rear camera comes on when I am in reverse;
(2) offroading - front camera is on unless I am in reverse, in which case the rear camera is on. This mode is useful when I am wheeling alone and need to pass a complex obstacle where I need to see what's ahead of me.
I think I figured out how do to this with a simple combo of a DTDP switch and a regular SPDP relay, but I would love for someone to check my logic.
To make sense of diagram:
- REV wire is hot when the reverse gear is on - I am sure I'll find it at or near the shifter to tap
- when Reverse gear is on, power is supplied to the rear transmitted via by a tap from the reverse lights
- when the DTDP switch is in the first position position, the REV wire is connected directly to the REV sensing terminal on the head unit. The second set of terminals is not used.
- When the switch is in the second position, the REV wire controls the relay. The REV sense on the head unit is connected to a 12V source via the second set of terminals on the switch making the camera input always on
- at the relay, when REV wire is off, power is supplied to the F7 terminal, which connects to a relay block in the engine bay and results in power going to F28 to turn on the front transmitter (if REV is off, the rear transmitter is off as well). When REV is on, relay output is off, but power is applied to the rear transmitter.
