Alarm Triggered on Highway

Hey Everyone,

Looking back on it, this was kind of a funny story but I hope it helps someone down the line!

Driving 65MPH on a populated interstate, my horn randomly begins blaring consistently in one-minute intervals. Lights on the dash flashing and horn blaring... I pull into a parking lot and pull the horn fuse just to get that obnoxiousness to stop. Now here is where it gets weird.. locks begin locking and unlocking and then from my engine compartment begins what sounds like a dial-up tone.

Thinking that my car was trying to connect to CompuServe I decide to pull the negative battery terminal. I check fuses, everything seems to be fine... After getting on T4R for a few moments and checking if this has happened to anyone else, I don't find anything related. I do however realize that under the driver's side seat is the "VIP" Toyota alarm control module. Turns out that the module doesn't enjoy being drowned by a large leaking bottle of water.

Realizing this, I unplug the module from under the seat and pick it up an ounce or two of water dribbles out... Luckily after I figured out this was the issue, I put took it apart and laid it in the sun to dry. Luckily this Texas heat dried it quick. Plugged it back in and went on my merry way. Everything has been fine so far. I am sure I need to do something to keep corrosion from building up now that it has gotten wet. Any ideas?

Hope this helps someone! I love this community!

I don't think you'll need to do anything. Maybe blast it with compressed air.

if you didn't know, you can actually, seriously, wash electronics in a dishwasher. WITH NO CAPACITORS obviously. Haha
Now I'm not saying to do that... Just make sure it's clean.

Well that is good to know. I'll probably just let it be then! Thank you
