Just check price for the actuator I have mentioned in my post (there is also part # for it) - it is about 1700CAD if you buy it OEM. For one electric motor and two gears and some wires!!!
Nevermind, sorry I was busy whole weekend and I am glad you have figured it out yourself and fixed so cheaply. Great job!

Yeah my issue wasn't with the actuator (thankfully) but one of the two VSV's that mount to the drivers fender well in the engine bay. Everything test fine except when I would put it in 4wd, the one VSV wasn't passing/switching the vacuum to engage the actuator. If you're having any 4WD issues, find the write ups that The Durk has made on here and follow his instructions. I understand how the system works now and it is pretty easy to diagnose.
My parts truck has saved my ass so many times now! You can't beat having a spare of basically everything!

Nope, the VSV for the 4wd system is a hair under $500 at my dealer as stated earlier in this thread so be glad you had one on hand Mike.

Just checked the price of that valve at Jaffarian Toyota in Haverhill, MA; $602.00 my cost, $752.00 list. Always save known good working 4wd VSVs when you get your hands on them.

totally agree...
when your in a pick and pull or a craigslist guy parting out a 4runner...grab them and everything related
sometimes they just think they are trash
unless they are knowledgeable to what they are. me I was lucky and the pick and pull I hit prob figured they were just trash. walked away with everything related and a bunch of other plastic parts for 25

Wow, no kidding. I could have sworn that it was around $500 at the end of 2017.

Little update:
I headed up north to the hunting cabin in central Wisconsin on Thursday. I made sure the 4wd was still working before I left and it was. It rained two of the three days so the trails were pretty sloppy. Luckily, the 4WD had no issues in 4H or 4L so the suspected faulty VSV was the fix.
And as an added bonus, I shot a decent 7 pointer with my bow the last night of the hunt! I had a much bigger 9 pointer come out two nights in a row but never gave me a shot. Now I have some of the purist organic meat on this planet, thanks to my 4R. Cheers!
