70a and 80a Denso Alt output at idle in gear.

Calling All you All with a clamp on DC amp meter.

Can you turn on your lights, fan on hi, in gear with the brake depresses and report the amp out of your Alt as well as the RPM the engine was at while it was in gear with the brake depresses?

My 70a Denso only pushes 41a in that condition idling at 600-650rpm in gear with the brake. I want to know if this is normal or if I got something going on with the voltage regulator.

I’m just curious where you are measuring this from… clamp around the alternator positive output or at the battery?

What is the system voltage when you made the 41a measurement?

I’m just curious out of that 41a how much was actually going to the battery for charging, and how much was going to the vehicle to run other systems.

It is measured at the output of the Alt. At idle in gear at 600rpm my Alt was producing 41 amps and another 2.5 amps was coming out of the battery. Battery post voltage was 12.7v.

As soon as I put it in park and the RPMs went up to 750 my voltage went to 13.6-13.8 at the battery and the alt was pushing around 47 amps and 4.5 of those amps was going back into the battery.
