Giving up ordering from Wheeler's!

I really wanted to support them for being a forum vendor but the shipping was through the roof! And they can't even tell me what it was going to be until AFTER they charge my credit card? $120 just for shipping for a shock/strut/spring package. Absolutely absurd, I'm sorry.

*EDIT*
I did call back and talk to Stephen, the guy I had first talked to and helped me over the phone. He did some checking and found that they were able to fit everything into 2 boxes instead of 3, dropping the shipping to $70. Now THAT's what I had envisioned as a good shipping cost. I'm glad I called back and talked to him. Just wanted to edit this and let everyone know they did right by me.

What did the shipping calculator say before you checked out?

I got curious and looked at my old order from 2016 and paid about $61 from OR to CA using UPS Ground. TX would cost more.

They seem like they do a good job of keeping their product prices low; assuming they don’t markup shipping, they are at the mercy of their carrier. Perhaps it’s not them you have the problem with?

That said, they should call their rep and make sure they are getting the appropriate discounts applied for the volume they do.

$164. I was told in advance that it would estimate a much higher price, I was just expecting a much lower "corrected" cost. $120 in shipping charges sounds reasonable to you guys? Maybe I'm off base here but that sure got my blood pressure up. I'd love to support them but it seems like they are trying to pass on other costs by padding the shipping.

Now you feel our pain on shipping here.

Would prolly cost us $300 and take 3 - 4 weeks.

If the estimate was $164 and you paid $120 then you should be happy.

That stuff is heavy. If the price bugs you that much then take the box directly to UPS after it arrives and get a shipping estimate to send it to Wheeler’s. I guarantee it will be at least $120.

I always assume that it won’t be less than the calculator tells me, but that’s because I’m a pessimist. $120 seems reasonable for what you ordered to me.

that is high but not for what was shipped...shipping charges in the lower 48...try shipping that stuff to me up here...what you paid is chump change ( comparatively)
gonna go to Oregon this spring and drive back ( again) gonna be loaded with goodies for my 4runner and "stuff"and like a big hit to harbor freight...not one up here

The big volume retailers get deals from Fedex and UPS. Smaller retailers and us consumers don't get those deals. Example: Fedex 2-day shipping from big retailer in NY to me here in CA: $16. If I need to return the item via 2-day Fedex, it costs me $34 form CA to NY.

Maybe I'm just getting old and not doing well with how much stuff costs now lol. I really do want to support vendors that are helpful and support us with even minor discounts and offer good products. Maybe I'll swallow my pride and give em a call back and see what they can do.

Trust me, shipping charges are crazy and I totally gave up selling anything on ebay. recently, I shipped an outside door trim, radiator shroud, 1 din compass unit and an air filter box off of a 01 Montero inside half sized 58 inch LCD TV box to NY from TX and shipping was $180 on usps parcel post. I'd rather hand deliver it by adding extra $100 and get to visit NY!

$120 in shipping for what he ordered?

Guys allow me let you all in on a big secret... Most shipping charges are the biggest rip-off of the past 10 years.

I was able to learn about this and see it all in action both the current company I work for and the previous one. Unless someone has an incredibly small company, their discount is most likely really high possibly shipping things.

We can ship a 70 lbs box for like 30 bucks on ground. And we don't even have the highest tier discount. And besides my experience, the most obvious example is Amazon. how on Earth do you think they can offer a free one or two day shipping on all kinds of crap? $150 a year is not going to cover it, unless, it was hyper inexpensive.

Things like boxes and wrap also almost free in the grand scheme of things. Usually less than $0.50 per box.
The last thing that you have is labor, and yeah you got to cover your cost there but still...

Generally my preferred option is headstrong off-road, they don't even charge shipping most of the time, at least as far as I'm aware historically. Why? because shipping is extremely cheap.

Don't get me wrong though, wheelers has excellent customer service. But honestly the shipping prices are what keep me away 90% of the time.

Last year to ship 4 TRD wheels I paid around $100.

Other things to consider in shipping is the general size weight of the package, along with insurance.

I’ve sold some expensive stuff before only to have it get lost in shipping… it was never found, and it wasn’t insured correctly. I ended up stomaching the lost. I’m sure Wheelers is also applying the appropriate insurance based on the value of goods.

Heavy, shocks has a gas charge and oil in them. Maybe higher shipping cause labeled as hazardous contents and ticked up the rate?

I ordered gear lube from Dallas and that got labeled as hazardous contents.

Ups ground slow boat charged $40 to ship 2 t-shirts in a small box from TX to HI. Dont like usps, they lose stuff all the time.
