Need help quick please. In a bind.

Ok so I tore up a CVaxle on my 98 4runner. I'm trying to see if it would be safe to remove both CV shafts and the drive shaft to the front diff and drive the truck in rear wheel drive? CV shaft broke in half so can't just put a new one in also tore up the bearing in the diff.

Thanks for the link but it was really unclear. I'm just trying to figure out if it will cause damage if I drive it in rear wheel drive with every thing going to the front diff removed.

According the thread, not with ADD. Other than how they described in the thread.

Automatic Disconnecting Differential, came stock on all 3G 4Runners, I believe. It's what engages the front diff in 4WD. Some prefer to retrofit manual hubs.

As long as you leave the TC in 2wd, I see no reason you have to remove the propeller shaft, assuming it was undamaged. It will just sit there with the half-shafts gone. Note the thread states you need to leave stubs on the hubs and the diff., though.

I haven't done it, but what they say makes sense.

Remove both ends of half shaft and front drive shaft, cover holes though only temp and stay out of water and mud. Also disconnect any wiring if it has electric diff locks or selector gear

You need the outer CV stub and axle nut through the hub and torqued to keep the hubs from coming apart

Maybe that's why the OP never replied in the last 6 years? Took out CV's, drove 5 feet, wheels fell off, still stuck trying to figure it out? lol
