OEM Hood with Scoop Worth it?
I know its ultimately my money and my rig, but would you guys think that buying an OEM hood with scoop is worth $300? Especially knowing it will need to be painted to color match.
As much as I'd like a hood scoop, I also feel like there's better places to put that money so curious on peoples thoughts. Thanks.

I would say that's totally an "if it's worth it to you" question. There are guys wanting to get rid of them, and guys wanting them. You might find someone on here within driving distance who has one the same color that you can trade with and not need to paint.
Edit - oops, was thinking 5th Gen when I responded. Likely not true for 3rd Gen. Sorry.

I ended up into it for about $800 with paint. IMHO, totally worth it:

if you're up on maintenance and have the money burning a hole in your pocket, sure! why not, they looks awesome.
I'd probably swing another way with the cash but i have a lot of other things that need to be done and my 4R's body is a 10 footer.

I thought about it too. Kinda odd for my supercharged 4Runner to roll around with a standard hood, then I see 2WD variants with a hood scoop (that doesn't actually do anything though). They didn't come in the Desert Dune color, so would be one of only a handful made.
I decided to spend the money to make my rig more fun with accessories and performance parts. I don't regret passing on buying and painting a hood.

The hood scoop doesn't do anything so I don't see how one could define it as "worth it" if it doesn't actually increase performance. If you like the looks, that's fair but you're not getting any value back by adding it on your car.

Completely a personal preference. What are you using your runner for? If it's mainly for street use and going for looks then I personally like the scoop and could see spending money to have a little bit of a unique look. Being that mine is a overland/towing rig I would never spend money on a scoop. No use for me whatsoever and not worth the cost.
By far maintenance should be priority for anyone with a runner. Do you have any other mods you are eyeing? What is the end goal with your runner?

Wait for the right deal, got mine for 150$ and it was the right color. I don’t think it’s an official oem Toyota hood but whatever looks legit. Just gotta check everyday or two cause they get scooped up real quick.

It decreases performance actually. And it is fake. Same thing as bead lock looK a like wheels LOL. More wind drag on an already not so good MPG vehicle.
You can spend that money onto a set of good tires. Put that money in kids college fund.
Heck 10 lap dances would be better than a worthless hood scoop. Gimmicky stuff geared towards Iphone FANBOYS. JUST MY WORTHLESS OPINION.
AT THE END OF THE DAY YOUR RIDE YOUR DECISION YOUR CASH. WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE SAY SO SCREW ME AND DO IT.

Parked next to another 3rd gen 4Runner two weekends ago below Mt Rainier: It was a red SPort 4Runner: I LOVE the look of the scoop!
BUT: I'd never go buy one as it's completely non-functional. As a matter of fact: I put money into the suspension before I got the cool scoop.

Thanks for everyone's opinions. Yea I'm caught up on all my maintenance: radiator, lbjs, valve covers, fuel filter etc. Water pump and timing belt was replaced about 60-70k miles ago, but considering I bought this 4runner in December and I've put about 2k miles on I still have some time left before I tackle that one.
The 4runner's used for fun on trails and OHV parks, but I don't think I'll be doing any rock crawling or anything that rigorous to require any mods that I don't currently have. Although, I imagine I'll be adding a prinsu roof rack and a front and rear bumper one day.
I'll mull it over again for a little bit before I decide.
Thanks again.

I love the look of the scoop hood. I wanted one for my truck so we drove 3 hours to buy a 4runner that had one and blown head gaskets just so I could get the hood off of it. Fixed the head gaskets and sold the truck.
