Rough Idle and sputtering = stall

So now my truck is developing a rough idle, sputtering with RPMs going from 500 to 1500, back down and up again, then stuttering and dies.
I give it a little throttle, it will ease up, try to die again, then I gas it a little more, then it seems to level out enough to be driven.
Any ideas? Battery? Belts? Fuel system? Global warming?
(its a 02 3.4L)
THanks

Any CEL? Does it start OK when cold but as soon as it warms up enough to go to closed loop it can barely move? If so (CEL was too rich or too lean, I forget), what I needed was a good throttle body clean. Then Techron before every oil change and TB clean every 30K (hardly needs it) and the problem never came back. I had only 30K when this happened, and the TB was coated with sticky yellow varnish. MAF is another possibility.

Remove the MAF and T-body and give them a good cleaning with carb cleaner. May want to clean the plugs too or just do a plug/wire change if that hasn't been done yet. New fuel filter. Air filter clean?

X2 mine was the same problem but worst, cleaned the crap out of the MAF sensor and now runs like a beauty.

I wouldn't recommend using carb cleaner on the MAF sensor. It's too harsh and could damage it. Use only MAF cleaner. It comes in a spray at your local auto parts store.

I agree, use MAF cleaner or CRC electronics cleaner only on the MAF. Anthing else may damage it and they aren't cheap to replace.

Thanks guys! I was kinda thinking something needed cleaning. I will get some CRC cleaners this week and give it a go.

If you do decide to change your spark plugs wires, I would get a volt meter and olm them out before spending money on new ones.

I did new plugs and wires a few months ago. No issues with that.

My 1999 limited had the same problems until I cleaned the MAF sensor and changed the air filter. The engine purrs like a kitten now. BTW, the Autozone code checker said the problem was cyl 4 missing. (wrong)
