Lol!! I'm with ya and I own it. I have zero concern if the thing blow up. Honestly just gives me an extremely valid reason to go spend a bunch of time and money on the truck 🤣🤣 true testament to toyotas quality though. I have a feeling you're right bout this having a lot of time left. Quite honestly I bought the truck with a horrible trans and it works better now than it ever has! Well see. But judging by the color of the fluid I'm thinking the filter and magnets did their job. Unless a completely perfect working transmission breaks on me suddenly while driving down the road then shell be fine. I think we can all agree the third test in a few months will be the determining factor if it's still eroding to nothing very quickly or if shes cleaned out.

It's still turning. So that the important part. Folks dont have the luck you do. Most folks loose the tranny with the pink milkshake.
I am just curious where the metal coming from. That takes quite a bit to plug the metal screen. I never seen one plugged on a toyota. However, I only ever had one transmission go bad in all these years too.
Exchanging the fluid and keeping fluid that lubricates the transmission does extend life. :]

I have no clue! I feel like a lot of the stuff in the filter could even be paint flakes from the pan.. this time I cleaned the pan with an sos steel wool pad really good to get anything off that could end up flaking? I did run the black fluid for quite some time as well with that new filter so that could have had an effect on it. More than anything though I just listen to the trans. If it starts making noises like It did or it fluctuates rpm on the freeway, anything like that i take care of it immediately and so far clean fluid and fresh filters have always fixed the issue. I'll be happy to just get another winter out of it. Hey last winter i thought it was toast lol guess I'm lucky just to still have it going currently

many years back when I bought my 4runner, I found that it had a stripped drain pan, really, I did not do it, so I ordered a new pan.
Im pretty sure it had no paint inside

I'm wondering what the purpose of painting it would be anyhow.. just increases likelyhood of contamination. Also more than likely, high UNlikely for 99% of people trans pans to experience the paint degrade. Of course it happened to mine lolol

My old Saturn actually had a spin on filter with a magnet inside the filter cavity that could be removed and cleaned. Those TAAT trans would go over 300k miles without a rebuild.

but they also have a paper filter, not just a magnet, and filter better than the stock "window screen mesh" in the stock "filter"
at least they did years ago in the olden days when I cut one apart

Yup agree 100% that always best to add an external filter. The window screen mesh only blocks big debris.
However, I have never seen a window screen filter plugged. If your transmission is plugging it. I really don't think you will have to worry about adding an external filter as soon it will not be turning and a major failure is heading your way at some point down the road.: (

I'll try to make this as short as possible. My truck got a Pink milk shake several years ago when it was my brothers. He flushed it out with gallons and gallons of new fluid, everything seemed to be fine. A couple years later he gave the truck to me. I also did several fill/drains because there were still signs of coolant in the tranny fluid (cloudy look).
About a year later I started hearing this whinning or marbles bouncing around the tranny sound on a cold start up. It did this for about a month before I was able to drop the pan. I found the OEM filter was completely plugged up with a brownish "clay" like material, most likely broken down clutch pack/plate material from the coolant that got in there. I cleaned everything out as good as i could and installed a new filter. The noise was now completely gone.
Everything was fine for a couple months until I started having shifting issues. The issue was my truck wouldn't shift out of 1st gear until the truck warmed up quite a bit (No, this is not the normal won't shift out of 2ND gear until it warms up for emission reasons). It eventually got worse and worse until I swapped in a donor tranny.
Moral of the story, if you hear this noise, make sure you drop your pan, clean it up and install a new filter. I believe I burned up the pump by starving it for that month or so.
Also, bypass the tranny cooler in the radiator or at least replace the radiator every 5-7 years or so, it's cheap insurance.
Hope this helps someone.

True that! The quicker you react the better! I have an all aluminum tig welded radiator so mine will never fail. It it was going to it would have as soon as it started when I installed it! Those are even better than replacing every 5-7 years
